Arsenal are missing a few key players and have struggled with major injuries this season. But that’s no excuse for the inconsistent results they have strung together and they need to start getting it together if they are going to get back on top. They could have the perfect chance to do that this weekend as they face Watford, a team that is also down on its luck and has been struggling in defense and pretty much every other area of the pitch.
Watford have been off and on this season. They have played out of their skin at times, getting big results against teams like Southampton and Liverpool, but then they have gone on to lose heavily to teams like Man City, who thumped them 6-0 and made them look like a second tier team.
They have pulled themselves together since then though and they should be stronger and more capable when they face Arsenal this weekend. They will also have a fairly fit squad to choose from. Chalobah will not be ready and will be missed, as the youngster is one of the stars of the future, but Cleverley and Deeney will both start. They will both also need to impress if they want to remain as a feature in this team, because while they have impressed in previous seasons they haven’t done much this season.
This is a very important season for Arsenal because they need something to happen to stop major changes taking place. I really can’t see Wenger lasting in this job if they don’t win silverware and if they spend another season dissapointing fans and not getting the job done.
There have been many signs of the old Arsenal this season, but there have also been signs of the new Arsenal. The former can beat the world, the latter will struggle to beat sides at the bottom of the Premier League, so that consistency is important and is going to mean the difference between success and failure this season for the Gunners.
Against Watford they are going to be without a few key players, which is going to cause some worry in the Gunners’ camp. Koscielny and Kolasinac will both face late fitness tests to see if they are ready for his game and the chances are pretty slim that both of them will be able to play the full 90 minutes. Mustafi is also out and could be on the sidelines for as long as six weeks.
However, aside from Koscielny, they are not huge losses. Ozil has been a big concern though, as has Danny Welbeck, and they should both be ready for this game. Of course, these two epitomize everything that is good and bad about Arsenal because they can be brilliant at their best but they are not always at their best and can be really poor when they are not. So, they are back, but whether they are ready or not is an entirely different story.
Cazorla, a man who could make a huge difference right now will not feature for a while and Chambers and Coquelin may also miss this game, although there is a chance they could still pull themselves together to at least feature on the bench. Only time will tell, but it’s not looking good.
This one should go to Arsenal. If Ozil is back as he should be, then he will play a big role in helping Arsenal get the three points. I think there will be goals because I know they are capable of getting a few against Watford and I also think that Arsenal’s defense is too weak to shut out the Hornets.
So, get your money on the away team for the victory and if you are feeling lucky then opt for Arsenal on the -1.
