- UK, Malta and Gibraltar
Betsafe have worked hard to increase exposure in the last couple years. They have been trying to position themselves as one of the biggest bookmakers in Europe and the fact that you can see their name everywhere means they are getting close. They sponsor Manchester City, they have commissioned a slew of TV adverts and it seems like you can’t visit a gambling website without seeing one of their banners or a link pointing to their site.
But is Betsafe one of the best bookmakers out there? Does it deserve all of that recognition or is this a bookmaker that you should avoid?
Betsafe has the feel of an English brand and we can see many similarities to Betway. In fact, many have assumed that they work under the same brand. That’s just not true, and this is certainly not an English company. In actual fact, Betsafe is par of the Betsson group and it is owned by a Swedish company.
The Betsson Group can trace its roots back to 1963, so it’s also fair to say that this is far from a new sportsbook. It operates under a Malta license and is also official and licensed in the UK.
Betsson are the reason that Betsafe have increased their marketing efforts of late. They bought all shares in the brand back in 2011 and have really pushed it since then. It helped them to gain a major share of the marketplace, and they have grown that share since the acquisition, making them one of the biggest gambling companies in the world.
You can use Betsafe to bet on all major sports and they also have eSports, MMA and other sports that are rising in popularity. They are a bookmaker that clearly pays attention to rising trends and is more than willing to cater for these. They are also a bookmaker with an obvious passion for football, as there are more markets on this sport than on any other.
Where football is concerned you are free to bet on everything and anything. There are very few restrictions, plenty of markets and they also have very good odds. However, the same can not be said for other areas of their website. They are lacking in places and this shows in sports that are not as global or as widespread as football.
For instance, if you are a fan of rugby league, which seems to be popular only in parts of New Zealand, England and Australia; or American Football, which has struggled to gain traction outside of the US, then you are limited to the main bets on the biggest games.
Betsafe do have some very useful promotions, offering you around £30 to £50 in welcome bonuses, as well as additional bonuses on top of that. Not the best we have seen, but far from the worst. If you are looking for a site to try some matched betting on, a site to add to your list of free bets, then this is well worth it.
If you’re looking for a single site to secure a big bonus and then stay around to use it, this is not it. The lack of a sizable welcome bonus, a loyalty scheme and other bonuses means it’s just not the best option on the market.
Betsafe have been okay when we have contacted them. They haven’t been the quickest and some of our messages didn’t receive a reply for several days. But there is a live chat there and the staff controlling it seem to be pretty competent.
The only issue we have with Betsafe customer support is that we’re a little distrusting of it on account of the stories we have heard. We know that bad stories exist for all sportsbooks and that Betsafe are far from the worst. But still, it’s something that we have seen a lot of here, more than we would expect, and that has caused some concerns.
If we were judging on experience though, then there would be no issues here. We haven’t had any issues with their support. But then again, we haven’t needed to contact them for any serious issues.
On the whole, Betsafe is a very reputable company that deserves to be placed alongside the biggest names in this industry. Just make sure you don’t place it ahead of them, because it is a long way from that. There are a number of issues with Betsafe that would stop us from ever ranking it above the likes of Bet365, Betway and other big players.
It doesn’t have the best odds, it has limited markets across the board and while the customer support has been solid in our experience, there are some stories out there that worry us and make us concerned if any issues do occur.
