ADS vs MLR Match Prediction - Jan 08, 2021

The recent trend of back to back matches continues in the Big Bash League as the Adelaide Strikers and the Melbourne Renegades get ready to face off once more.

The previous match ended with a heavy defeat being handed to the Melbourne Renegades. That was the seventh consecutive match that the Renegades have lost and things are looking for them.

We are past the halfway mark in the tournament and both the teams will be feeling the crunch.

The Adelaide Strikers are right in the middle of the league table and cannot afford a slip up here.

Adelaide Strikers vs Melbourne Renegades BBL 2020-21 is going to be played at the Adelaide Oval, Adelaide on the 8th of January 2021.

ADS vs MLR Team Previews

Adelaide Strikers

An excellent bowling performance led by Peter Siddle and Wes Agar ensured that the Adelaide Strikers get an easy win to their name.

Rashid Khan and Danny Briggs also bowled very well. The form of the Afghan spinner is a very big advantage for the Strikers. His four overs are almost not contested by the opposition.

He has also been getting more wickets than usual in recent matches.

The batting order has seen a reshuffle as Jake Weatherald has shifted down the order and Matt Renshaw to the opening slot. Phil Salt has been disappointing and just does not seem to learn from his mistakes.

Renshaw got into a bit of a heated scuffle with Kane Richardson at the end of the previous match and that is something that could spice things up this time around.

Alex Carey is back to three though and that is a positive move. He can bat through the overs and have the maximum impact.

Overall, though, the Adelaide Strikers are a bit wobbly in their batting and must improve this aspect of their game.

Philip Salt, Matt Renshaw, Alex Carey, JW Wells, Jake Weatherald, Ryan Gibson, Rashid Khan, Danny Briggs, Wes Agar, Peter Siddle, Harry Conway.

Melbourne Renegades

The Melbourne Renegades have been the worst team of BBL 2020-21 by a fair distance.

Their batting has been a complete train wreck and while their bowling has had a few good performances, they have not been good enough to get it a win either.

None of their batsmen are in form. Aaron Finch is having a shocker as he either gets out early or trends to score is fits and starts before throwing his wicket away.

Shaun Marsh has been the line player fighting for the Renegades and he was missing due to a niggle in the previous match as well.

While he is expected to play this match, there is a risk that the Renegades may be rushing him back.

A collapse never seems too far when the Renegades are batting and we never have confidence that they are going to close out a game.

Kane Richardson, Mohammad Nabi, Josh Lalor, Imad Wasim, and Jack Prestwodge were all a part of the bowling attack in the previous match.

That is a very decent set of players and the Renegades would have been disappointed they did not shut out the Strikers after picking up early wickets.

The death bowling has been very ordinary for the Melbourne Renegades adding to their woes in the tournament.

Everything seems to be going wrong with the team at the moment.

ADS vs MLR Toss Prediction

The team that wins the toss may want to field first. The Strikers won the previous match batting first but in general, chasing is the preferred option at the Adelaide Oval.

Read our guide on toss predictions to learn how we analyze and come up with our tips.

Pitch and Conditions

There is no rain forecast for match day and we should result get a full uninterrupted game.

The pitch at the Adelaide Oval is generally very good for batting and the short square boundaries allow for a lot of sixes to be hit as well.

The bowlers are going to struggle to keep the runs down and picking wickets is the only way to go.

A score of around 165-170 should be seen as par batting first.

ADS vs MLR Betting Tips

The Melbourne Renegades are a wreck right now. They have an average bowling attack and a completely unreliable batting.

The Adelaide Strikers, on the other hand, have a few batsmen in good form and have the best T20 bowler in the world-leading their attack.

We have to stick with the favorites once more.

Bet on the Adelaide Strikers to win.
