ADS vs MLS Match Prediction & Betting Tips - Jan 11, 2019

It’s a tough time for the Melbourne Stars to be without their best players in the Big Bash League. Playing against any team without Maxwell, Stoinis, Handscomb, and Zampa is going to be tough but more so against the Adelaide Strikers. The Adelaide Strikers are also going to be without Alex Carey, Peter Siddle, and Billy Stanlake for the next few matches.

The defending champions of the BBL, Adelaide Strikers have got their BBL campaign back on track after a poor start. They did lose their last game against the Sydney Sixers but will definitely be targeting a win in this match.

The Melbourne Stars now have three wins from their six matches, exactly the same as the Adelaide Strikers. The team that wins this match will be joint second on the BBL League table.

ADS vs MLS Team Previews

Adelaide Strikers

The Australian ODI team selections have come as a surprise with the selectors ringing in a number of changes. The Adelaide Strikers would have expected to lose Alex Carey and Billy Stanlake to the Australian national squad but would have been pleased with having Travis Head back in the side.

Travis Head was one of the driving forces for the Adelaide Strikers last BBL season and he will be hurting at having lost his place in the Australian ODI side. There is no better way for him to make a statement than to make runs in the BBL.

The loss of Alex Carey is a big one but the Adelaide Strikers seem to have the depth to be able to withstand that. Jake Weatherald and Colin Ingram have been scoring runs and now Travis Head will be a very good addition to the top order as well.

Even the middle order of Matthew Short and Jonathan Wells has been performing up to expectation. We don’t think the batting is going to be too much affected by the loss of Alex Carey. The Adelaide Strikers certainly seem to be in a better position than the Melbourne Stars when it comes to the batting lineup.

The real blow to the Adelaide Strikers has come to their bowling. Billy Stanlake and Peter Siddle have been fantastic for the Adelaide Strikers. Stanlake has bowled with searing pace and got early wickets while Peter Siddle has been one of the most economical bowlers in the entire league.

Replacing them is going to be a tough job.

The pressure on Rashid Khan, Michael Neser, O’Conner, and Valente is definitely going to be more without the presence of their best fast bowlers.

Melbourne Stars

The BBL team which has been hit hardest by the Australian ODI selections is the Melbourne Stars. The side was already a little low on overseas talent and depth going into the season but taking away its best performers is just a bit too much.

To be fair, the backup players of the Melbourne Stars did put up a decent fight against the Perth Scorchers. Ben Dunk top-scored for the side with 62 runs while Evan Gulbis scored a valuable 37 as well. Their opening partnership of 69 raised hopes that the Melbourne Stars may be able to do something special but there was no one to follow once these two got out.

The batting order looks too fragile right now and while the Adelaide Strikers are going to without some good bowlers, their bowling attack is still pretty dangerous.

We don’t have too much faith in Maddinson, Gotch, Bravo, and Merlo to be able to score enough runs to beat the Adelaide Strikers. If the Stars have to be competitive then it is going to be down to ben Dunk to score the bulk of the runs once again.

The bowling also struggled for the Melbourne Stars in the last match. Beer, Boland, and Plunkett were expensive and only picked up one wicket between the three of them. Dwayne Bravo was good as was Bowe but the bowling will have to improve significantly to stop a strong Adelaide Strikers batting.

Pitch and Conditions

The BBL 08 match between the Adelaide Strikers and Melbourne Stars is going to be played at the Adelaide Oval, Adelaide. The weather is expected to be nice and clear on match day. There is no threat of rain. The pitch at the Adelaide Oval has been excellent for T20 cricket. There will be something in it for the bowlers but the batsmen will have the opportunity to play their shots as well.

ADS vs MLS Betting Tips

We think the Melbourne Stars are a handicapped side without their best players. They are entering this fight with one hand tied behind their back. The Adelaide Strikers will be targeting an easy win in this match and we think stopping them will be very difficult.

Back the Adelaide Strikers to win.
