BH vs ADS Team Previews

Brisbane Heat

We think it’s fitting that the Big Bash League 08 will start at the Gabba featuring Chris Lynn and Bredon McCullum. These two have been a key reason why BBL is vastly popular around the world. Forget everything you have seen about Chris Lynn’s struggles in international cricket. The man bosses BBL cricket and hits sixes for fun.

As a captain now, it will be interesting to see what kind of tactics he employs.

Chris Lynn, Brendon McCullum, and youngster Max Bryant are expected to be the top-3 for Brisbane Heat to start out with. Max Bryant is also a very exciting player spoken of in potential Australian national team terms already.

Bryant may well o on to establish himself as the third ‘Bash Brother’.

Joe Burns struggled with injury in the previous season of the BBL but he should return to the side ready to go. There is also Jimmy Pierson, the ‘sweepologist’ Alex Ross, and Matt Renshaw in the side to give it a truly formidable batting lineup.

Brisbane Heat’s bowling is quite strong too thanks to a mix of eciting new players and some experienced campaigners. James Pattinson, Brendan Doggett, Steketee, and Jack Prestwidge should take up the fast bowling mantle while Mitch Swepson and Mujeeb Ur Rahman take over the spinners role.

Pattinson is another player that finally seems to have put his injury troubles behind him and is bowling back to his best. Jack Prestwidge is also creating some hype around him as someone who can get the ball to go very rapidly.

The other bowlers have been with Heat for a long time now and had plenty of success in the BBL.

Brisbane Heat always enters the BBL as contenders but has failed to win a title since the second edition of the tournament. Chris Lynn and company would be hoping to start strong this time and lay down an early marker against the Adelaide Strikers.

Adelaide Strikers

The defending champions of BBL 08, the Adelaide Strikers are going to go into the first match of the Big Bash League with plenty of questions to answer. The team will look to replicate the template that proved so successful for it last year as it dominated the competition and ended up winners.

The Adelaide Strikers won last year’s Big Bash League because of a brilliant bowling attack that always kept them in the game. No matter who the opposition was, they needed to find a way to score against the Adelaide Strikers and that was not an easy task.

This will be the case in BBL 08 as well.

Billy Stanlake, Ben Laughlin, Rashid Khan, Peter Siddle, and Michael Neser all nailed down their positions in the BBL with some excellent performances. Rashid Khan was a bit of an unknown quantity when came to Australia last season but this time he comes as the best T20 bowler in the world. This added exposure around the world comes with added scrutiny and so it can be assumed that teams would have better plans against him.

Peter SIddle is a part of the test squad and so may or may not be released for the first few matches. Billy Stanlake with his express pace and disconcerting bounce shold be the biggest threat to Brisbane Heat in this match.

For the start of this tournament and through summer, a lot of the Adelaide Strikers players will be missing because of Australian national duty.

This is a problem that the Perth Scorchers were particularly troubled with last year and it can be difficult to find a solution to.

Travis Head and Alex Carey are all integral to the fortunes of the Australian side right now. These two were the highest scorers for Adelaide Strikers last season and with Jake Weatherald formed the heart of the batting unit.

Now, with these two missing, the Adelaide Strikers batting looks thin and could be found out. Players like Jake Lehman, Colin Ingram, and Matt Short will have to play a much bigger role in BBL 08 than they did in previous seasons.

Pitch and Conditions

There is expected to be some rain around in Brisbane in the week leading up to the match. Thankfully, though, the weather forecast for match day itself is pretty good. The extra amount of moisture in the air could help aid the bowlers while making the pitch a bit softer and difficult to hit on.

BH vs ADS Betting Tips

The lack of the two best Adelaide Strikers batsmen puts them at a big disadvantage in this match but their bowling attack is as good as ever. Brisbane Heat, though, seems to have fortified its side in all aspects and promises to start with a win.

Back Brisbane Heat to win.
