CSK vs DC Match Prediction - Sep 25, 2020

Things just keep getting better in the Indian Premier League 2020. Sunrisers Hyderabad collapsed to fetch a loss out of nowhere to hand Royal Challengers Bangalore a superb start. Just a day ago, Delhi Capitals sneaked in with a win over Kings XI Punjab to grab two important points. Considering that they have a tough assignment ahead, the confidence and momentum gained from that win could massively help the Capitals.

Up next in the tournament are the Capitals set to take on Chennai Super Kings, who registered a solid win over Mumbai Indians in their as well as the tournament's opening encounter. While Delhi Capitals are coming into this match straight after their win over Kings XI Punjab, Chennai Super Kings are to play Rajasthan Royals before locking horns with the Capitals. The upcoming match is scheduled to be played at Sheikh Zayed Dubai International Cricket Stadium, Dubai, on 25th September 2020.

CSK vs DC Team Previews

Chennai Super Kings

Chennai Super Kings may be called a Dad's Army, but they are one of the most agile teams in the competition. The sheer experience they have, be it bowling or batting, is second to none. As was apparent in the first match, they are master of adapting to the situations and changing their strategy on the go. It were primarily the experience and the agility that got them across the line against the Mumbai Indians.

As it stands, Chennai Super Kings are currently placed at the top of the table with a net run-rate of 0.486. With Raina and Harbhajan opting put of the tournament, they were underdogs against Mumbai Indians and not many would have given them this chance to emerge on top. However, it was a fantastic team effort that got them through pretty easily at the end.

Chennai started with plenty of questions to answer ahead of them, but with a remarkable performance in the first match, most of those questions already seem to be answered. With Raina not available, their number three position was under the clouds of uncertainty and Faf du Plessis grabbed the opportunity with both hands. The absence of Dwayne Bravo cast doubts over CSK's depth in the batting and variety in the bowling, but Sam Curran proved to be an optimal replacement for him.

Although we will be in a better position to judge after Chennai Super Kings is done with their match against Rajasthan Royals, CSK's opening pair appears to be a little out of sorts. Shane Watson is generally a slow starter and needs someone who can act as a foil for him. Given that, Murali Vijay appears to be a poor choice. Also, Vijay hasn't done anything substantial with the bat over the last couple of years. If he fails to deliver against the Royals as well, we might see Rituraj Gaikwad or N Jagadeesan coming in to replace him.

Previous match update: Even though Chennai Super Kings are coming off a loss against Rajasthan Royals, they wouldn't be too concerned, yet. Sanju Samson was just brilliant on the day and their bowlers couldn't have done much. In fact, the Super Kings would be happy to see the fight they managed to put chasing the towering total of 217. Faf du Plessis, Shane Watson, and Mahendra Singh Dhoni looked in fantastic form with the bat and would like to continue building on their form. Having said that, Murali Vijay's stay at the crease was more laborious than fluent. These are early days and a lot unlike CSK, but a change might be on the cards at the top, especially with Rayudu likely to get back into the team. Lungi Ngidi wasn't at his best at the death, but might be given a longer rope before the management decides to bring back Bravo or Hazlewood for him. Other than those two areas, CSK appears to be a perfectly settled unit as per their performance in their first two matches in the competition.

With the presence of solid all-rounders in Ravindra Jadeja and Sam Curran, Chennai Super Kings is an immaculately balanced team. Dwayne Bravo is likely to be fit to play and will certainly be a welcome addition to the squad and with Curran doing well, Bravo might actually come into the side in place of Lungi Ngidi. Chennai Super Kings' only apparent problem as of now appears to be their fragile opening pair and if they can fix that, CSK will be a tough team to beat, especially with MS Dhoni leading them.

Chennai Super Kings Playing 11

SR Watson, M Vijay, Faf du Plessis, Sam Curran, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Kedar Jadhav, MS Dhoni, Ravindra Jadeja, Piyush Chawla, Deepak Chahar, JR Hazlewood.

Delhi Capitals

Delhi Capitals would be relieved to end up on the right side of the result after putting up a rather uncertain show against the Kings XI Punjab. It was Kagiso Rabada's brilliance in the super over that got them two important points as Kings XI Punjab had a brain-fade moment to tie after being in a position to win.

Perceived to be a little too over-reliant on Shreyas Iyer and Rishabh Pant, the Capitals didn't prove to be any different than they were perceived to be. Their batting at the top of the order looked jittery and restless, losing wickets in heaps before Iyer and Pant brought them back into the side with a good 73-run partnership. The lack of agility and responsibility was clearly apparent by the way their top-order was dismissed.

While Mohammad Shami was undoubtedly superb with the ball for KXIP, Delhi's batsmen didn't even show any intent to tackle him with discipline. Prithvi Shaw perished to slog a waist-high, fast short-ball over mid-on, only to be caught in the infield. It wasn't much different with Shimron Hetmyer as well as his shot-selection, too, was completely off and was dismissed after a laborious knock.

It was all not dark for the Capitals, though. Once Shreyas Iyer and Rishabh Pant started batting together, accumulating runs never seemed to be a problem. Delhi's innings began to gather momentum with Pant and Iyer targetting their prey perfectly. Shreyas Iyer, in particular, was pretty severe on Krishnappa Gowtham as he smashed him for two sixes to bring his team back into the business. Just when the pair was looking to get into the groove and launch a counter-attack, they both lost their wickets to rather innocuous deliveries. A total of 130 appeared to be out of reach for the Capitals, but splendid hitting by Marcus Stoinis in the last two overs pushed them to a total of 157, which just proved to be enough. Marcus Stoinis ended up with 21-ball 53 runs and was adjudged man of the match for his game-changing performance.

With a pace bowling attack that Delhi Capitals have, they certainly had a chance to defend that total. Anrich Nortje and Mohit Sharma started well, keeping Rahul and Agarwal quiet. A few tight overs at the top induced a false stroke from Rahul as Delhi Capitals made in-roads into Punjab's lineup. They kept picking up wickets at regular intervals and reduced Kings to 55 for 5 and only one result looked possible thereafter. However, with Ashwin out injured, and Axar Patel done with his quota, Delhi Capitals seemed to be running out of options at the death before Stoinis bowled a good last-over to take the game to the super-over, which the Capitals won with rather ease. Even though Marcus Stoinis managed to win them the match with the ball as well, death bowling is something that Delhi Capitals' management would be wary of.

Delhi Capitals are coming off an encouraging win, but they certainly have a good number of problems to deal with. Their top-order looks shaky and until Shikhar Dhawan finds form, it's going to look so. It would be interesting to see whether and when they'd want to rope Ajinkya Rahane into the playing eleven. While they have a good battery of spinners available, losing Ravi Ashwin could be a big blow considering the balance he brings to the team. His participation in the upcoming match is still doubtful. Also, Mohit Sharma is way past his prime and might not be the best choice as a death-bowler, leaving Delhi with few options to choose from.

On paper, Delhi Capitals appear to be a solid side, but with their top-order being a little unpredictable, they seem to be a little too over-reliant on Pant, Iyer, and Stoinis to do the heavy-hitting. The Capitals would need one of those three to fire with the bat for them to do well with the bat and present a challenge to a team like Chennai Super Kings.

Delhi Capitals Playing 11

Prithvi Shaw, Shikhar Dhawan, Shimron Hetmyer, Shreyas Iyer, RR Pant, Marcus Stoinis, Axar Patel, Amit Mishra, Avesh khan, Anrich Nortje, Kagiso Rabada.

CSK vs DC Toss Prediction

Quite remarkably, the teams have more often than not chosen to bowl first in the tournament so far and the teams batting first have won most of the matches. Considering the results, there would certainly be a temptation of going with the trend and electing to bat first. However, the factor of dew making a difference is too big to ignore. Besides, both teams have good, potent batting units that would fancy their chances to chase any reasonable total down on this surface. Given that, winning the toss and bowling first should be the way to go here.

Pitch and Conditions

There have already been a couple of matches played here and those both matches produced middling first innings totals and sporting contests. While the surface tends to get slower towards the end of the match, the presence of dew makes things even between the two sides. As the surface is expected to be a bit on the slower-side once again, spinners are likely to do better than the seamers. Not often do we hear about rains in the desert and it won't be any different this time as well. It would be a hot evening with no chances of rain and fitness levels will be tested. The team batting first would want to put a total of at least around 165 runs on the board.

CSK vs DC Betting Tips

While the two teams are both sitting comfortably in the top half of the table after winning their respective opening encounters, there is a stark contrast between how the two teams won. While Chennai Super Kings were clinical in this approach despite being the underdogs, Delhi Capitals found a way to mess things up despite being in a position to dictate terms. We believe it is only a matter of time before Chennai Super Kings plug that hole at the top of their order. However, with Ashwin injured and death-bowling looking not so good, Delhi Capitals have plenty of problems to deal with. Though the Capitals have some very talented match-winners available at their disposal, we think that beating an in-form CSK unit would prove to be a task too big for Delhi Capitals. Chennai Super Kings certainly walk in as firm favorites to prevail in this upcoming encounter.

Faf du Plessis - Total Runs (20 Overs)

    Over 21.5 at 1.83

    Visit

Even though Faf du Plessis struggled at the beginning of his innings in the last match, he made up a slow start in a terrific manner in the previous match. He currently has two back to back fifties under his belt and is expected to put a huge price on his wicket. Hitting a personal score of over 21 runs shouldn't be too difficult for him.

    Mohit Sharma - Total Wickets

    Under 0.5 at 2.40

    Visit

Even though Mohit Sharma managed to pick up a wicket in the previous match, it was more because of an irresponsible shot selection by the batsman. Apart from that, he was thrashed by Mayank Agarwal at the death. Given that Mohit Sharma was the part of CSK's camp for a long time, CSK's players would be aware of Sharma's trick. We do not think that Mohit Sharma will be able to find any success in the upcoming match.

    Total Runs - Match

    Over 320.5, 1.83

    Visit

Even the match totals have hovered in the range of 160 here, the totals in the tournament have been increasing steadily. That is largely because of the fact that batsmen are getting familiar with the conditions. The surface across the venues has been similar and we expect both sides to produce a better batting performance. A match total of 321 or more is certainly on the cards.

All 4 Opening Batsmen To Score 1+ Runs Each

    Yes at 1.20

    Visit

Its a rather risk-free bet with reasonable returns. Almost all sides have been circumspect at the start in the tournament so far and we do not expect it to change. Both sides have a decent set of openers who are unlikely to throw their wicket away without actually settling in. Definitely a bet for people looking for low-risk propositions.

Shane Watson, Shikhar Dhawan, and Faf du Plessis All To Score 25+ Runs Each,

    Yes at 7.0

    Visit

Shikhar Dhawan might have been dismissed for a duck in the previous match, he couldn't have done much about that. He is a class player and will be looking to play a sheet-anchor role for the Capitals and given the past records, he is more than capable to play that role to perfection. Faf du Plessis and Shane Watson both looked in sublime form in the previous match and would like to bat for as long as possible in this match. This bat offers fantastic 7x returns for your money and that appears to be a superb proposition considering the risk involved. Certainly a risk worth taking.
