Our Prediction: Comilla Victorians to win, N/A Bet on Comilla Victorians to win for Real Money
The final group league of this exciting Bangladesh Premier League 2017 will be played between the Comilla Victorians and the Sylhet Sixers. While the newest team in the league can no longer qualify for the knockouts this year, their performances would have done them proud and the Sixers will definitely attempt to end this tournament with a win. The Victorians, on the other hand, are assured of the top spot in the league table and will take the final game as an attempt to fine tune their plans for the knockout stages.
A defeat in their last match against the Khulna Titans would have given the Comilla Victorians the jolt they probably needed just before they play the most important matches of the tournament. Their team has been dominant so far but they would definitely want to avoid losing two matches in a row at such a crucial time in their campaign.
The Victorians opted to play the Zimbabwe duo of Mire and Cremer in this match but that experiment failed quite spectacularly. Mire and Cremer both scored a duck and while both of them were economical with the ball, neither of them really did too much damage.
A return to their strongest side with Liton Das and Saifuddin in the side along with the Pakistani duo of Hasan Ali and Shoaib Malik is all but guaranteed in the next match.
We would like the Victorians to play with their strongest side consistently and not tinker around with the combination too much otherwise they risk losing the momentum they had built up during the group stages.
With batsmen like Tamim Iqbal, Imrul Kayes, Jos Buttler, Shoaib Malik, and Marlon Samuels in the side the Comilla Victorians should be able to bounce back after this blip with little trouble. The bowling lineup of Hasan Ali, Shoaib Malik, Mehedi Hasan, and Al-Amin Hossain is also versatile enough to counter any batting lineup that they will encounter.
The Sixers needed a win in their last match and some results to go their way if they were to sneak into the knockouts but even though they recorded a massive win, they still fell short of qualification in the end.
Their last win was their most comprehensive of the tournament as they bowled out the Chittagong Vikings for 67 and then proceeded to knock off that meager total without the loss of a single wicket.
This performance typified why the Sylhet Sixers fans have been frustrated with their team since they have been brilliant at times but hopeless on others. A lack of decisive leadership has hurt them but the crux of a very strong T20 team has definitely emerged for next year onwards.
We don’t see the Sylhet Sixers making any changes from the last match and that means that the batting will depend on Andre Fletcher, Sabbir Rahman, Babar Azam, and the big-hitting Ross Whiteley. There is plenty of firepower here as well as the calming influence of Babar Azam that should allow the Sixers to get to a competitive total.
It would be difficult to replicate the kind of bowling performance they put in the last match but the five wickets taken by Nasir Hossain will mean that the skipper will definitely turn his arm over once again. Left armer Sohail Tanvir, Sharifulah, and Nabil Samad all did well the last time around and so they are likely to handle the bowling responsibilities in this match too.
The Sylhet Sixers have been playing freely in the last few matches and that has allowed them to flourish. They will once again have nothing to lose in this match against the Comilla Victorians and that can work in their favor.
A dry day with some harmless clouds around has been forecast for match day and that should be encouraging for both teams. We think a low scoring match with scores hovering around 140-150 is in order.
The bowlers are likely to dominate in this encounter because of the slow nature of the pitch.
The Sylhet Sixers convincingly against the Comilla Victorians the last time around but we feel that the roles will be reversed this time around.
Back the Comilla Victorians to win.
