DBH vs NMBG Match Prediction - Nov 30, 2019

Mzansi Super League 2019 is turning out to be a pretty tightly contested tournament. Five out of the six teams are close to each other and the race for playoff spots is going to be tight. Durban Heat’s win against Cape Town Blitz in the previous match helped them climb up to ten points and within range of the leaders.

They will now be taking on the Nelson Mandela Giants in this match, a team that is currently separated from the top spot by just net run-rate. The Giants have won four out of their six matches so far but have displayed a few weaknesses in the recent matches. Durban Heat has a chance to build on its winning momentum and start to move upward in the league standings.

Durban Heat vs Nelson Mandela Bay Giants MSL T20 is going to be played at Kingsmead, Durban on the 30th of November 2019.

DBH vs NMBG Team Previews

Durban Heat

Durban Heat won its first match of MSL 2019 in the previous match thanks to a very strong batting performance. Dane Vilas, Wihan Lubbe, and David Miller all played very well to make a steep chase look pretty easy in the end.

There were some good signs in there for the upcoming matches and possibly some sterner tests ahead.

Durban Heat’s batting is strong, we knew that, but the form of its leading batsmen was not too good leading up to the previous match. A turn of fortunes for Dane Vilas proved to be the spark that Durban needed to overhaul a target of 182 while losing just three wickets.

The opening partnership of Alex Hales and Wesley Marshall continues to remain a concern and there may be some possible work to be done there. We know how dangerous Alex Hales can be but his form has been poor for quite some time now. Wesley Marshall, too, has not looked the part of an opening batsman for the long term just yet.

The bowling also has a few holes in it. The bowling unit gave up 181 runs and it looked like being much more for a majority of the inning. Andile Phehlukwayo and Keshav Maharaj were the only economical bowlers while Kyle Abbott did decently too.

The fourth and fifth bowlers for Durban Heat are pretty weak and will allow the opposing teams a chance to really take the attack to them.

Durban Heat Playing 11

Wesley B Marshall, AD Hales, Wihan Lubbe, DJ Vilas, David Miller, RS Bopara, Andile Phehlukwayo, K Maharaj, Marco Jansen, KY Abbott, MP Siboto.

Nelson Mandela Bay Giants

A loss in the previous match to the Paarl Rocks was the first one that the Giants have suffered in MSL 2019. The batting lineup caved in completely and was not able to perform as per expectations. Like the Durban Heat, the opening partnership has not been working for the Nelson Mandela Bay Giants.

Jason Roy has been disappointing this season and is struggling to make a mark in the MSL so far.

Matthew Breetzke has been unimpressive and as a result, the Nelson Mandela Bay Giants are almost always two down for not too many.

The strong middle order of JJ Smuts, Ben Dunk, Heno Kuhn, and the all-rounders has been enough to get them over the line but the lack of runs from the opening pair is becoming a real concern. The Nelson Mandela Bay Giants know they are up against a decent batting lineup and so they will need to be at their best in this game.

The real strength of the Giants has been their bowling. Imran Tahir has been spectacular with the ball while Chris Morris, Beuran Hendricks, and Junior Dala have all been in the wickets regularly. There is no real weak link in the bowling and even the fifth bowler’s job is done by JJ Smuts, a vastly experienced domestic player.

Finding enough runs from their own batsmen is going to be the biggest challenge for the Nelson Mandela Bay Giants in this game and the ones that follow.

JJ Roy, JJT Smuts, Ben Dunk, Heino Kuhn, RN ten Doeschate, Chris Morris, Marco Marais, Onke Nyaku, B Hendricks, Junior Dala, Imran Tahir.

Pitch and Conditions

There is around a 30% chance of rain in the second inning of the match, which is not too bad considering the kind of weather we have had in Durban so far. We are hopeful of a result and maybe even the entire match being completed before the rain arrives.

The pitch in Kingsmead has been good for batting. The only match played there so far saw scores of around 170 from both sides, which is something we expect in this match as well.

DBH vs NMBG Betting Tips

We like the strong bowling lineup of the Nelson Mandela Bay Giants although the batting units of both the teams appear very similar. The toss could also play a big role as we think the chasing team is going to have an advantage. Purely on paper, we think the Giants are the team to back in this contest.

Bet on the Nelson Mandela Bay Giants to win.
