DC vs MI Match Prediction - Oct 31, 2020

With Chennai Super Kings registering a last-ball win over Kolkata Knight Riders, Mumbai Indians became the first team to cement their place in the playoffs of IPL 2020. We now have only two games remaining for each team in the league stage of the tournament and still, there are lots of permutations and combinations possible. Every match hereon is going to have a significant impact on the qualification scenarios.

The upcoming match between Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals holds massive importance for both sides, but for different reasons. Mumbai Indians will want to register a win here to reserve a place in the top two slots of the table whereas Delhi Capitals will want to win this match just to reserve a slot in the qualifiers. This is a high-stakes encounter and both sides are expected to come out hard at each other. The match is to be played at Dubai International Cricket Stadium, Dubai, on 31st October 2020.

DC vs MI Team Previews

Delhi Capitals

Three matches ago, Delhi Capitals were firm favorites to finish among the top two sides at the table, but a string of losses has put them in a spot of bother. Their massive defeat to the Sunrisers has further spoiled the Capitals' chances. Capitals' net run-rate nosedived and another couple of losses can push Delhi out of contention.

The Capitals' last win came against Chennai Super Kings, in a game that happened a while ago. Since that win, they have lost three matches and have looked increasingly unsettled with every passing match. Delhi Capitals had a pretty stable team in the first half of the competition and a few injuries coupled with some uncalled for tactics have flipped their state.

While their opening pair has plenty of experience available, it hasn't really reflected in the performances. After scoring two consecutive hundreds, Shikhar Dhawan failed to do anything of substance. Ajinkya Rahane, although has looked good, hasn't really been able to convert his starts to a big one. Now, the Capitals are left with a glaring question of whether to keep Rahane or bring in Shaw for the upcoming games. With frequent chops and changes already being the likely cause of their instability, another change could be the last thing that the Capitals need.

On paper, Delhi Capitals still pretty much have the same team they had in the first half of the tournament. Their batsmen haven't really clicked in unison in the past few matches and the lack of intent at the top of the order hasn't helped their cause either. Their bowlers, however, still seem to be doing pretty well and would want their performance against the Sunrisers to prove to be an anomaly rather than a norm. Against Sunrisers, it was after a span of four years that Kagiso Rabada went wicketless in an IPL fixture.

All in all, Delhi Capitals have an excellent team on paper and a spark of brilliance might just help them get back their form. They desperately need a win here and we can expect them to go all-in in this upcoming match.

Delhi Capitals Playing 11

Prithvi Shaw, Shikhar Dhawan, Shreyas Iyer, RR Pant, Shimron Hetmyer, Marcus Stoinis, Praveen Dubey, Harshal Patel, Kagiso Rabada, Ravichandran Ashwin, Anrich Nortje.

Mumbai Indians

Not only have the Mumbai Indians qualified for the playoffs, it almost certain that they'll finish among the top two teams in the points table. Their net run-rate is pretty much responsible for their excellent position as Mumbai Indians find themselves miles ahead of the other teams despite having just two points more than the second-best team in the competition.

After an embarrassing defeat to Rajasthan Royals, Mumbai Indians bounced back to register a solid win over Royal Challengers. Their bowling as well as batting played their respective roles to perfection as they completed a relatively easy win riding on a brilliant knock by Suryakumar Yadav.

Given the kind of performances Mumbai Indians have posted in the competition so far, they have been one of the most complete sides in the history of IPL. They have super bench-strength with like-for-like replacements and that seems to be paying off as well. Despite playing without their regular skipper Rohit Sharma, Mumbai Indians do not really seem to be bothered, be it with respect to the team combination or captaincy. Ishan Kishan has stepped up fabulously to open the innings and Pollard has used his experience well to keep things aligned as far as captaincy is concerned.

Mumbai Indians have a lineup that is oozing class right throughout. Almost everyone in their batting lineup is capable of hammering the bowlers around regardless of the surface. We saw Suryakumar Yadav playing a responsible knock in the previous match and Hardik Pandya smashing a terrific fifty in the match before that. The versatility they have in their batting department is second to none.

With the ball as well, Mumbai Indians are well equipped. Having a quality third pace-bowling option has been a problem for most sides in the tournament, but with Bumrah, Boult, and Pattinson, Mumbai Indians have a well-rounded bowling unit. Before the tournament started, Mumbai Indians appeared to be a little light on spin stocks, but the way Rahul Chahar and Krunal Pandya have bowled in the middle overs, that notion no longer holds true.

Mumbai Indians have been in incredible form in the tournament and barring their recent defeat to the Royals, Mumbai Indians have always looked an intimidating team. They have an imposing batting lineup and a bowling attack that can wreak even the best batting lineups. Given the way Mumbai Indians are playing, it would certainly take an extraordinary effort to defeat them.

Mumbai Indians Playing 11

Quinton de Kock, Ishan Kishan, SA Yadav, SS Tiwary, Jayant Yadav, Kieron Pollard, Krunal Pandya, Nathan Coulter-Nile, Rahul Chahar, Trent Boult, JJ Bumrah.

DC vs MI Toss Prediction

It is a high-pressure game for Delhi Capitals and runs on the board could prove to be game-changing. Also, the fact that they failed to chase well in the previous match will be playing on their minds. Conditions, however, have so far supported the team batting second as dew had made gripping the ball difficult. Also, the fortunes are beginning to favor the team batting second of late. Having said that, this is a day game and dew will not be a factor. Therefore, we expect the captain winning the toss to bat first.

Pitch and Conditions

The surfaces in the UAE are clearly getting drier and drier with every passing match. The good news for the batsmen is that despite the slowness, the surfaces still have even bounce and pace. Also, dew has started to make a massive impact and the teams have increasingly preferring to chase now. We saw the advantage the chasing team has in the last two matches as well and that can be the case again. Also, unlike as in the first half of the competition, batsmen are now finding it easier to hit the express bowlers. Leg-spinners, on the other hand, are certainly enjoying their time. Considering that bowling will get difficult in the second half of the second innings owing to the lights, the team batting first will want to post a total of at least 180 runs on the board.

DC vs MI Betting Tips

There is still plenty of uncertainty surrounding the qualification scenarios and the Capitals will want to put all that to rest by winning the upcoming contest. Currently, six teams are fighting it out for the three playoff spots, but a win here for the Capitals will seal another spot. It is going to be a high-voltage game and handling the nerves will be important. The fact that the Capitals are coming off three consecutive defeats doesn't really help their cause. Mumbai Indians, on the other hand, have experience available right throughout the lineup and should be able to handle the pressure better. Besides, they have already qualified so won't be under much pressure. Considering that as well as the fact that Mumbai Indians are an anyway better team, at least on paper, betting on Mumbai's win should be the way to go in the all-important encounter.

While the surfaces are getting slower, the presence of dew in the second innings is making it easier for the chasing teams. The last few matches have been pretty high scoring and that is expected to be the case again given the potent batting lineup the two sides have. This is a bet that shouldn't be missed.

As we have seen in the past few matches, Delhi's top-order isn't really settled. While Shikhar Dhawan scored back to back centuries in a couple of matches, but he didn't get any support from the other end. Also, the absence of Prithvi Shaw at the top has taken away the flair that the Capitals had at the top. Mumbai Indians, on the other hand, have a well-settled top-order that will likely go after the bowling. For the mentioned reasons, Mumbai Indians are better placed to have a higher score after the end of the powerplay.

Quinton de Kock hasn't really scored in the last couple of matches despite looking good and that is one of the reasons we are getting so good returns on this punt. He has been in terrific touch in the competition so far and is expected to pretty easily cross the 25-run mark.
