Our Prediction: to win, N/A Bet on to win for Real Money
India took 1-0 series lead as they crushed the home side England by 133 runs by D/L method in the second of the 5-match ODI series; with the first match washed away by rain, England will be eager to make a comeback when they face each other on 30th Aug for the 3rd ODI at Nottingham. Team India has gained fresh impetus with this massive victory after their test debacle and will go in with more confidence on Saturday; the hosts on the other hand will try hard to contain the visitors and avenge the humiliating defeat that they suffered on Wednesday. It will be interesting to see which side can keep a cool head above its shoulders and deliver when it’s required the most.
Chris Woakes and James Tredwell dealt massive blows to the opponent’s batting line-up in the 2nd ODI; with the former taking 4 wickets while Tredwell claiming 2 important ones. While they did good damage to the top order, the others had no answer to Suresh Raina’s batting prowess and Dhoni and Rahane’s determination. Though the bowlers managed to restrict India to 304 runs, the batsmen failed to step up and get the scoreboard ticking; Jadeja’s left-arm spin crippled the side and players in the middle order fell without a fight. Alex Hales shows promise in the top order, he scored 40 off 63 to put up a good show but with Cook dismissed at 19, there was none to share the burden. Players like Root, Buttler and Ian Bell need to pull up their socks along with the captain and build partnerships if they want to keep their campaign alive. Morgan and Stokes tried to stick their feet firmly on the ground but they would need to have more will-power to make a difference to the side. There are many talented players in the team; they just need to be focused and apply their skills in the battlefield.
Suresh Raina came through for team India as he scored a brilliant century off just 75 balls to set a competitive target for the English batsmen; with 12 fours and 3 sixes, he displayed good batting skills and perseverance along with Dhoni at the other end, posting a sturdy 144-run partnership for the 5th wicket. Rohit and Dhoni looked in good shape as both got their half-centuries but Kohli and Shikhar Dhawan need to apply their techniques and focus on getting the runs on board. Rahane is also playing well in the middle while the bowlers continue to do a splendid job for the team. Jadeja took 4 wickets, demolishing the English side while Shami and Ashwin took 2 wickets each at regular intervals to overpower the home team from all sides. The bowling squad has the required depth and if the batsmen can find the inspiration to perform well, then nothing can stop this side from emerging victorious.
While England will fight tooth and nail till the end to make amends for the previous reckless defeat, India with its recent shot in the arm from the victory will give no room for errors. Though the contest will be a well-fought one and can go down to the wire, India looks better placed to maintain the lead.
