ESS vs GLO Match Prediction - Jul 27, 2019

Essex lost its match against Kent just a few hours ago but it is already going to be preparing for its next match against Gloucestershire. This is the way that the T20 Blast works and there is absolutely no time to waste.

Gloucestershire, of course, is coming off an impressive win against Middlesex in its previous match. Whether it can take the gains from that match and try to get on a prolonged winning run remains to be see.

Essex has one win from its three matches so far while Gloucestershire has one win from its two.

Essex vs Gloucestershire T20 Blast 2019 match is going to be played at the County Ground, Chelmsford on the 27th of July 2019.

ESS vs GLO Team Previews

Essex

Cameron Delport was unable to repeat his heroics from the previous match and got out cheaply in the match against Kent. As a result, the onus was on Essex’s other batsmen to try and deliver in a chase of 176.

A few batsmen got starts but no one was able to bat long enough to make a difference and eventually Essex fell 22 runs short of the target.

Ryan ten Doeschate top-scored with 58 not out but would have very disappointed at the performances of the other senior batsmen around him. Varun Chopra, Tom Westley, Daniel Lawrence, and Ravi Bopara are all experienced enough to know how to chase down a par total under pressure.

A lack of application and some daft shots were the theme of the day. Essex will need to be better Gloucestershire since they also have a very good T20 bowling attack.

Adam Zampa and Simon Harmer were the only two bowlers that we're able to have some control over the opposition during the bowling stint. Shane Snater, Matthew Quinn, and Ravi Bopara all went for plenty of runs.

Essex has continued to underperform its potential in the T20 Blast 2019 and needs to start avoiding basic errors to remain competitive.

Gloucestershire

Gloucestershire took full advantage of the fact that AB de Villiers was not playing the match for Middlesex and kept them to a relatively small total of 148. Andre Tye, Benny Howell, Ryan Higgins, and David Payne all bowled well.

It was Payne who took three wickets and the headline but the control that the other bowlers exerted in the middle overs was also exemplary.

The small chase, by T20 Blast standards, was not as straightforward as Gloucestershire would have liked and they only managed to get to the total in the final over with two wickets remaining.

Runs for Miles Hammond and Benny Howell were the main reason why Gloucestershire was able to get to that total at all.

Michael Klinger, Ian Cockbain, and the others failed to make any contribution and looked quite out of form.

Gloucestershire will know they have to bet better against an Essex side that is pretty loaded in the batting department. If nothing else, the team will need enough runs to give its bowling unit a chance to do the bulk of the work again.

Pitch and Conditions

Essex vs Gloucestershire is going to be played at the County Ground, Chelmsford. There is a lot of rain predicted on match day in Chelmsford and unless the met department has got it absolutely wrong, we are not going to be able to get any cricket.

The pitch at Chelmsford is good for batting on most days but whether we get to see the surface used at all is another question!

ESS vs GLO Betting Tips

We don’t think Gloucestershire has the kind of T20 team needed to win matches consistently. Essex may not be performing up to its potential but still have to back it in this contest.

Bet on Essex to win.
