The pandemic may have delayed the excitement, but it's well and truly here. With a calendar full of T20 matches spread across CPL, IPL, and T20 Blast, the cricket fans couldn't have asked more after World T20 got postponed. Vitality T20 Blast is set to begin on 27th August and excitement is slowly but steadily brewing.

Fans at Bristol will be eagerly waiting for the clash between Gloucestershire and Northamptonshire Steelbacks. While the two teams had contrasting seasons last year, the contest is expected to be a lot tighter this time around. The match between the two sides will be played at the Bristol County Ground on 27th August.

Gloucestershire

With Michael Klinger retired and Andrew Te no longer available due to the pandemic, Gloucestershire would have to work hard to match their last year's performance. Riding on the Michael Klinger's form, Gloucestershire finished second in the South Group and qualified for the knockouts. However, they could not get past the quarter-final stage as they fell short against Derbyshire in the quarter-final fixture. They won seven games and lost just three before their run came to an end.

They have a few voids to fill this year and doing that will not be easy. Apart from Klinger, it was the pair of Ian Cockbain and Miles Hammond that did the bulk of the scoring for Gloucestershire. Hammond, in particular, was brilliant as he smashed 322 runs in total at a strike-rate of 140 including 10 sixes and 39 fours - the most runs in boundaries by any batsmen in the season. Hammond, along with Cockbain, will have a huge role to play in the absence of Klinger and it will be interesting to see how they approach their innings.

Albeit due to different reasons, their bowling is experiencing a fate similar to their batting. Andrew Tye, their most successful bowler last year, is no longer available and the onus will be on David Payne to pick up wickets as well as keep the opponents' scoring rate in check. He did pretty well last year, picking up 16 wickets with a decent economy, and that experience will certainly come in handy.

With the likes of Graeme van Buuren, Miles Hammond, Benny Howell, and George Scott, Gloucestershire seems to have its batting covered. They have a well-balanced lineup with an excellent amalgamation of youth and experience. However, their bowling looks a tad underpowered with a lot resting on the shoulders of David Payne, Ryan Higgins, and Benny Howell. Furthermore, replacing Klinger as a player as well as a captain will be a colossal task. Jack Taylor is an experienced campaigner and if can lead the side well, Gloucestershire is certainly going to have a long run in the tournament.

Northamptonshire

On paper, it might appear that the Steelbacks finished a long way off the knockouts line, it wasn't actually the case. The finished the league stage with a total of 12 points to their name when they needed 15 to qualify. Had it not been for the weather, which forced Northants to share points in four matches, they could have finished higher on the points table. Northamptonshire is one of the most successful sides in the history of T20 Blast and they will be looking to grab the title once again.

Had it not been for Coronavirus, Northamptonshire would have had Kieron Pollard at their disposal. While the presence of Pollard adds to the firepower in any team, the Steelbacks are certainly not short of fire-power. With batting consisting of Adam Rossington, Joshua Cobb, and Paul Stirling, they have some of the finest strikers of the ball in T20s. Paul Stirling smashed 142 in an ODI game against England and he can be even more lethal in the shortest format of the game.

Rossington and Cobb were two most successful batsmen for the Steelbacks and will be key to the team's fortunes this year as well. Rossington has been in excellent form in red-ball Cricket and his counter-attacking skills will be more than useful in the upcoming contest. Joshua Cobb has been around for a long time and has plenty of experience under his belt. His skillful captaincy, experience, and his all-round skills could prove to be gold in the absence of overseas players.

Northamptonshire does not have any dearth whatsoever of batting talent. They have an incredible pool of hard-hitting batsmen, who all can win the match on their own on their day. However, the Northants appear to be a little too inexperienced as far as seam bowling is concerned. Their quick bowling rests on the shoulders of Nathan Buck, Bareth Berg, and Ben Sanderson, who all do not have much experience under their belt. While there will be a surprise factor for the opposition, their bowling attack is prone to crumble under pressure.

All in all, the Northants have a fantastic batting unit, but an ordinary bowling attack. They'd need their bowlers to bring out their 'A-game' and if they can do that, Gloucs will have its work cut out.

Pitch and Conditions

Spells of rain are expected on Thursday and that could have an impact on the match. There is a possibility of the match getting abandoned as well. The ground is known for its perfect surface for the batsmen and generally, no score is safe to defend here. However, with rain in the air, we expect there to be some assistance for the bowlers as well. Considering all that, the team batting first should be looking to put a total of at least 180 runs on the board.

GLO vs NOR Betting Tips

While Gloucestershire is banking on their balance to take them through this time as well, the Northants have their batting to back them. The fact that Gloucestershire has the home advantage and has an immaculate balance weighs heavily in their favor. On the contrary, Northants' bowling attack appears to be a bit weak and that could be exploited by experienced Gloucs' batsmen. Betting on a Gloucestershire win should be the way to go here.
