Our Prediction: to win, N/A Bet on to win for Real Money
Last year runner-ups, Guyana Amazon Warriors take on Antigua Hawksbills in the inaugural match of the Caribbean Premier League 2014 on 12th July at 12:00 am IST at St. George’s. The Hawksbills had ended up in the bottom ranks of the points table last year with a dismal performance and would like to begin on a positive note this time around, with the team having many overseas players who brings their skills and expertise to the table. The Warriors too have strengthened their team with a good mix of young talent and established players, from the national team as well as from overseas and will be eager to begin the tournament with a bang.
Led by Sunil Narine, who is a T20 expert as witnessed in this year’s IPL edition as he became instrumental for team Kolkata’s win in the mega event, the team would definitely be at an advantage with his guidance, experience and skill-set. Martin Guptill, Jimmy Neesham and Mohammad Hafeez are the flamboyant overseas players, who are known for their batting skills and have won matches for their respective teams many a times. They will certainly be the pillars of the team along with players like Denesh Ramdin, Trevon Griffith, Christopher Barnwell, Steven Jacobs, Veerasammy Permaul and Leon Johnson who bring their all-rounder skills aboard. Lendl Simmons, Krishmar Santokie, Navin Stewart, Ronsford Beaton, Jacobs and Johnson along with their captain, Narine will prove to be a tough bowling attack for any opposition, with a good combination of spin and fast-bowling tactics. Overall, this side seems to be rejuvenated with determination and will to succeed and will be a tough one to beat this season.
Starring established players like Saeed Ajmal, known for his wicket-taking abilities, Ben Dunk, Ben Laughlin and David Hussey, who can say a lot with their bat, and bowlers like Sheldon Cottrell, Carlos Brathwaite, Gavin Tonge and Miguel Cummins, team Antigua will be captained by Marlon Samuels who is himself a strong batting powerhouse. Having had a rough ride last year, the side will be determined to play well this time around and give a stiff opposition to the leading teams. They have good support in their bowling attack by Justin Athanaze and Rahkeem Cornwall, who bring in their off-break skills to the table and will get further depth with Danza Hyatt, Orlando Peters, David Hussey and Samuel’s all-rounder abilities. The team needs to use the resources strategically and come out trumps by applying their skills with conviction; it will be interesting to see how this season turns out for them. The Warriors are a motivated lot and therefore, the players need to gel as a team and come out all guns blazing right from the start.
Looking at the team compositions, we can safely say that this will be close contest; with batting experts as well as strong wicket-takers available on both sides, it is anybody’s game on Friday. While the match will definitely go down to the wire, we feel the Warriors are better placed to win this contest.
