HBH vs SYT Match Prediction - Jan 07, 2021

Big Bash League is already getting exciting with every passing match and the upcoming match between Hobart Hurricanes and Sydney Thunder has all the ingredients to set the stage on fire. Sydney Thunder and Hobart Hurricanes are two of the strongest teams of the tournament and have played like that. Both sides are coming off defeats in their respective last matches and are expected to come out all guns blazing. A cracker of a contest is certainly on the cards. The two teams will meet on 7th January 2020 at Optus Stadium, Perth.

HBH vs SYT Team Previews

Hobart Hurricanes

The Hurricanes are right below the Thunder on the points table and even though they haven't been as imposing as Thunder have been in the tournament so far, the Hurricanes would be pretty happy with where they stand. They are at the third spot on the points table with 18 points, winning five of eight matches. A win here will take them to the second spot and that is exactly what they'll be aiming for.

With James Faulkner no longer available, the Hurricanes are a light in the all-rounders' department as compared to Thunder but have more specialists available to do the job. Right from the top, they have match-winners coming in their lineup and that can be a problem for any bowling attack that faces Hurricanes.

Ben McDermott, D'Arcy Short, Dawid Malan, Colin Ingram are all heavy hitters of the ball and can hit the ball a long way. Their bowling attack looks pretty good as well with Riley Meredith, Scott Boland, and Sandeep Lamichhane doing a terrific job on a consistent basis. With the number of match-winners that the Hurricanes have, getting past them is going to take some effort.

Sydney Thunder

Even though Thunder are coming off a loss in their previous match, they wouldn't be worried yet. They were at a disadvantage against the Heat right from the time when the toss went against them. Batting first, they still managed to put a towering total on the board, the highest in the last thirteen matches at that venue.

Even despite a loss in their previous match, the Thunder are pretty well settled on the points table. They have won five of their seven completed matches and have 19 points to their name. Besides, they have a terrific net run-rate of 1.538, which can come in handy should things get tight towards the back-end of the competition.

On paper, the Thunder have everything that one would want in a T20 team. In Alex Hales and Usman Khawaja, they have a swashbuckling opening pair that can tear bowling attacks on their day. In addition to that, their middle-order is second to none and with the presence of versatile all-rounders in the middle-order. the Thunder have a terrifically well-balanced side.

All in all, Thunder have match-winners available right through their order with the likes of Chris Gree, Daniel Sams, Alex Hales, and Tanveer Sangha available. If they can put their best foot format, beating them is going to be tough even for the Hurricanes.

HBH vs SYT Betting Tips

The two teams have adopted different strategies respectively in the tournament so far. While the Hurricanes have relied on specialists, the Thunder have been dependent on their all-rounders to get the important points. On paper as well as on performance in the tournament so far, the two teams evenly matched and there's almost nothing to choose between the two sides. However, due to the sheer number of match-winners available in all departments of the game, we are backing Sydney Thunder to emerge on top in this all-important encounter.
