HBHW vs SYDW Match Prediction - Nov 13, 2019

The WBBL group stages are gathering momentum and it is becoming a tight fight for the qualification places. Only one win separates the top-6 teams at the moment, although the number of matches played varies as well.

Surprisingly, the Sydney Sixers sit at 5th place in the WBBL 19 league table, not a place they are accustomed to being. Their opponents in this match, the Hobart Hurricanes are second from the bottom with just two wins from their eight matches.

Both teams also ended up losing their previous match so may be a bit wary coming into this contest.

Hobart Hurricanes Women vs Sydney Sixers Women WBBL 05 is going to be played at Invermay Park, Launceston on the 13th of November 2019.

HBHW vs SYDW Team Previews

Hobart Hurricanes Women

The Hobart Hurricanes women have had a very strange sort of WBBL season so far. They started with two convincing wins in two matches but have failed to win a match since. It is not like they have not come close or have played very bad cricket but every time there is a close match, the result seems to go against them.

The same thing happened with them against the Melbourne Renegades as well and we cannot help but think how morale-sapping this run of form would be to the team. The Hobart Hurricanes have played well and not been able to convert those performances into wins while on other occasions they have been very poor.

Now, up against the Sydney Sixers, the Hobart Hurricanes may need to play their best cricket yet to have a chance. The role of Belinda Vakarewa, Tayla Vlaeminck, Maisy Gibson and the rest of the bowling unit is going to be the most important one.

We don’t think the Hobart Hurricanes are going to be able to out-bat the Sydney Sixers and this is why they must take a leaf from Brisbane Heat’s book. The Hobart Hurricanes bowling attack is quite decent and if it can pick up the Sydney Sixers cheaply then there is a chance of keeping them to a manageable total.

Nicola Carey, Heather Knight, and Chloe Tyron are also very decent bowlers so there is really no ‘weak’ bowler for the opposition to target.

Heather Knight, Fran Wilson, and Nicola Carey have to take the responsibility of scoring the most runs possible as well. The Hurricanes have struggled in getting regular contributions from its batting unit. The opening batters have disappointed and there seems to be a lack of power down the order as well.

Changing things around in this match is possible but not very likely.

Sydney Sixers Women

The Sydney Sixers have lost two matches this season, both of them against Brisbane Heat. There seems to be some sort of a mental block that the side has to overcome against Brisbane Heat but that is not a problem they need to think about now.

Sydney Sixers have four wins from six matches and are fifth in the WBBL league table. They have played a couple of matches less than most other teams, though, and so should move up the table shortly.

This match against the Hobart Hurricanes is one they would be targeting as a sure-fire victory.

Ellyse Perry and Alyssa Healy are in excellent form for the Sydney Sixers but they would not be happy be about the dependence their team is showing on them. There have been just two matches in which the star opening pair has failed together and in both the batters to follow were not able to pick up the slack.

It is unfair to assume that Perry and Healy will be able to win every single match for the side.

Senior players like Marizanne Kapp and Dane van Niekerk must take responsibility as well.

Erin Burns and Ashleigh Gardner are two of the most talented batters in Australia but they have not contributed in any significant manner so far. The Sydney Sixers are the most successful side in WBBL history but a few cracks seem to be appearing in its near impenetrable shell.

Marizanne Kapp, Ellyse Perry, Ashleigh Gardner, and Dane Van Niekerk will lead the bowling attack against the Hobart Hurricanes. Once again, there is just too much skill and experience in this lineup to not be successful on a regular basis.

Pitch and Conditions

There is some rain around in Launceston Australia but the forecast on match day gets better. We should hopefully get a full game in without any interruptions. The pitch is going to be a bit of a lottery and we are sure that both the teams will be keen to have an exact idea of what score they need to get to win.

Some unpredictable bounce and slowness of the wicket could make batting a challenge.
