KK vs LQ Match Prediction & Betting Tips - Feb 28, 2019

PSL 2019 is living up to its reputation of being one of the most competitive leagues in the world as every team has shown the capability to beat every other team on its day. We have an intriguing match coming here as the Karachi Kings take on the Lahore Qalandars.

The Karachi Kings Sit at the bottom of the PSL 2019 standings but they are just one win away from moving into the qualification zone. The Lahore Qalandars are fourth in the table and that means they cannot afford to slip down any further.

Both sides come into this match with some decent form behind them. The Karachi Kings lost their last match to Islamabad United and the Lahore Qalandars won their match by a resounding margin against the Quetta Gladiators.

We expect another closely contested match between these two sides.

KK vs LQ Team Previews

Karachi Kings

Two wins from six matches is not a good showing for a team of Karachi King's caliber. The side put in a decent performance against Islamabad United in the previous match but fell short of registering a win. Runs from Babar Azam and Liam Livingstone reiterated the dependency of the side on these two players for its runs.

Babar Azam scored 68 from 50 balls while Liam Livingstone played an aggressive inning of 56 from just 31 balls that included four sixes. It was unfortunate for the Karachi Kings that none of their other batsmen were able to contribute or accelerate towards the end of the inning.

Players like Colin Munro and Colin Ingram are world class players in the T20 format. Ingram proved just how dangerous he can be a few matches ago with a record-breaking century. We expect the same top four to play in this match as well and they should be able to take the game to the Lahore Qalandars.

Ben Dunk has been shifted down the order but has looked a little out of sorts. He may play the occasional cameo but he does not seem like a good fit at number 5 to us.

Imad Wasim had an uncharacteristically expensive night in the previous match. He is usually a dependable economic bowler in the limited overs formats. With Mohammad Amir, Usman Shinwari, and Umer Khan as the other bowlers in the lineup, the Karachi Kings are well balanced.

With this side, it seems more like a problem with putting the pieces together rather than a problem that they have in terms of talent.

Karachi Kings Playing 11

Babar Azam, Colin Munro, Iftikhar Ahmed, Colin Ingram, Aamer Yamin, SI Wasim, Liam Livingstone, Mohammad Amir, Mohammad Rizwan, Aaron Summers, Umer Khan.

Lahore Qalandars

The Lahore Qalandars defeated what is perhaps the form team of the tournament in their last match. That was not just an ordinary victory, though, it was a thumping and will have provided a lot of confidence to the Lahore side.

There are a number of pieces that are coming together nicely for the Lahore Qalandars. The most obvious thing seems to be the bowling.

The Lahore Qalandars have an excellent bowling attack led by the likes of Shaheen Afridi, Yasir Shah, Sandeep Lamichhane, and Haris Rauf. There is no doubt about the skill and class of Afridi and Yasir Shah but the fact that youngsters like Lamichhane and Rauf are proving their worth is a big bonus for the Lahore Qalandars.

David Wiese and even Fakhar Zaman rolled their arm over in the previous match to give the Lahore Qalandars a boost.

There is still some concern about the depth in this bowling attack. If one of the top-rated bowlers goes for runs then there are not too many options for the skipper to fall back on. There are three main batsmen that are in the Lahore Qalandars side.

AB de Villiers, Fakhar Zaman, and Corey Anderson. These are the three that are going to have to have an excellent PSL 2019 if the Lahore Qalandars have to dream about winning the tournament.

There is no doubt about the class of AB de Villiers. He is a world class batsman and is always going to be dangerous no matter what the situation, conditions, or the opposition. The other two we are not so sure about.

Fakhar Zaman is notoriously inconsistent while Corey Anderson is not the most comfortable in the subcontinental conditions.

There are some other promising batsmen like David Wiese, Haris Sohail, and Sohail Akhtar that can be counted on as well but they are unlikely to be able to win matches on a consistent basis. The Lahor Qalandars are in good form but is clearly a side with some vulnerabilities.

Lahore Qalandars Playing 11

F Zaman, Gauhar Ali, Haris Sohail, AB de Villiers, Corey Anderson, D Wiese, Sohail Akhtar, Sandeep Lamichhane, Yasir Shah, Haris Rauf, Aizaz Cheema.

Pitch and Conditions

The PSL 2019 match between Karachi Kings and the Lahore Qalandars is going to be played at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, Dubai. The weather is not going to be a problem and we should have a full game in.

The pitch in Dubai has been a bit slower and therefore the challenge for the batsmen to get big scores is clear. We think a score of about 160 should be considered a very competitive one.

KK vs LQ Betting Tips

The Lahore Qalandars won a low scoring match against the Karachi Kings in their previous match in PSL 2019. They definitely have the match winners to be able to repeat that result. However, judged on purely an objective basis, the Karachi Kings seems to have the better-balanced side. The batting depth and the bowling class is there in the Karachi Kings to make a sustained run to qualify.

Back the Karachi Kings to win.
