Our Prediction: to win, N/A Bet on to win for Real Money
Kolkata Knight Riders, with a fantastic and comprehensive win against Chennai Super Kings in their last match have 14 points from 12 matches and are pitted against the Royal Challengers Bangalore, who have only 10 points from 12 matches, at Kolkata on 22nd May. The Royal Challengers are in a very difficult position to be in the reckoning and this contest is a must win for them and that too with a good margin to improve their NRR. Will the host team continue on its winning streak or will the visitors try and keep their hopes alive; we will know this shortly, however, certainly the match will be a live wire of action.
Gambhir and Utthappa have been consistently delivering to lay a strong base and the pair has settled down as a very reliable and dependable opening pair. They did it again against Chennai Super Kings on 20th, when they had a situation where by winning the match, they are almost certain to be in the super league stage, with Rajasthan Royals, Chennai Super Kings and Kings XI Punjab. They restricted the Super Kings to 154 by superb work on the field and tight bowling by Narine, Cummins and Chawla. Chasing 155, Utthappa and Gambhir repeated their feat in laying a solid foundation with 64 runs, Gambhir departing at first; Pandey came in and in the company of Utthappa played fantastic shots, Utthappa making 67 off 39 balls. In-form Shakib joined Pandey in the middle and did what the team expected of them with 8 wickets in hand and 2 overs to spare. With this splendid performance, they are not likely to allow any elbow space for Royal Challengers to enter into the reckoning, unless the calculations of cricket prove otherwise.
Royal Challengers Bangalore fought well to defend their 160 in their match against Sunrisers Hyderabad on 20th but lost to the more disciplined and determined team and thus are equal at 10 points with them, thereby, leaving the 4th place for the qualifiers, wide open. Early losses especially Chris Gayle and Parthiv and only 24 runs scored from 6 overs to start, is a difficult situation to recover from; however, Kohli with Yuvraj and later with de Villiers, played splendidly to score 67 off 41 balls and rebuild the innings and ultimately the team made a decent 160. Six sixes were hoisted altogether by the trio-Kohli, Yuvraj and de Villiers in the later 10 overs and that speaks of the entertainment the spectators got from the teams in middle. However, as if that was not enough, a man in–form, opponent Shikhar Dhawan, blasted 50 opening the innings and in the company of Warner, laid a solid foundation and dependable Ojha almost took the team to a win but Darren Sammy came and ensured the win with 2 balls to spare. This demolished the dreams of the Challengers to go ahead in the points table and the results of other matches, especially involving Kolkata Knight Riders will count the luck of RCB. They are equal to Sunrisers with the former having played just one more game.
Both teams are well balanced in their strengths and approach; while RCB is in a do or die situation here and expected to do well, the Knight Riders are playing professionally and are clear favorites to win.
