LIO vs DOL Match Prediction - May 01, 2019

After showcasing a dismal exhibition of cricket in the Momentum One Day cup not long ago, the Lions have finally bounced back into the form they once had during their run to the four-day cup title. They finally made their way to the top four and will be meeting Dolphins in the first semifinal of the tournament which is to be played at the Wanderers, Johannesburg on 1st May. Dolphins were lucky to find themselves in the top four as they not only defeated Cape Cobras in their last round-robin fixture but also had other results go their way. The knockout games are always high-pressure games and it's going to be the same this time around as well. We expect a cracker of a contest on 1st May.

LIO vs DOL Team Previews

Lions

Considering the side they have, at least on paper, it isn't even a bit of a surprise that the Lions have topped the charts in the league stage. The combination of Enoch Nkwe and Temba Bavuma has worked wonders for them.

In addition to their superb coach and captain combination, they have plenty of experience in both their batting as well as bowling. Rassie van der Dussen and Reeza Hendricks have done tremendously well for them in the tournament so far. They have arguably the most experienced side in the tournament with the likes of Temba Bavuma, Bjorn Fortuin, Rassie van der Dussen, Reeza Hendricks, and Dwayne Pretorius.

The presence of versatile all-rounder in Dwayne Pretorius adds to their balance which already looks immaculate with both their batting and bowling in fine form. Ryan Rickelton played a terrific knock of 74 runs a couple of days ago and will be looking to produce something similar on Wednesday. With Bjorn Fortuin doing well along with some exceptional support from the rest of the bowlers, beating Lions at their own den isn't going to be easy in this upcoming high-pressure encounter.

Lions Playing 11

Ryan Rickelton, Reeza Hendricks, Temba Bavuma, RVD Dussen, PWA Mulder, Dwaine Pretorius, Nono Pongolo, Migael Pretorius, Bjorn Fortuin, Aaron Phangiso, Lizaad Williams.

Dolphins

Dolphins have had an eventful tournament thus far. They started off with a string of losses, but amidst rains and washouts, Dolphins kept winning odd games here and there and sealed a playoff spot with a superb win over Cape Cobras in the last league match of the tournament.

It once again took a scintillating innings from Vaughn van Jaarsveld as he clubbed 48 runs in just 31 balls to make a mockery of a smallish total. Alongside him, Morne van Wyk and Cody Chetty looked in superb form as they too smashed the ball all around the park. Dolphins eventually won the match with plenty of overs to spare.

Their bowlers, too, have been doing exceedingly well with Robbie Frylinck, Keshav Maharaj, and Prenelan Subrayen picking up wickets in almost every game. Overall, Dolphins have done exceedingly well in the build-up to the playoffs despite looking down and out at one stage. Considering the form they've been in their last form matches, it won't be surprising if they register a win against free-flying Lions.

Dolphins Playing 11

Mv Wyk, VBV Jaarsveld, C Chetty, Khaya Zondo, Senuran Muthusamy, Andile Phehlukwayo, Sibonelo Makhanya, Robbie Frylinck, K Maharaj, P Subrayen, D Dupavillon.

LIO vs DOL Betting Tips

With Lions coming off a win in their last match and Dolphins, too, registering back to back wins to seal a playoff berth, both the sides are coming into the upcoming match with plenty of momentum behind them. Morne van Wyk, Cody Cheddy, and Vaughn van Jaarsveld have shown terrific batting in the last two matches and look in sublime touch. However, Lions have been a more consistent side, have shown better cricket and have experienced played right throughout which can be crucial in pressure situations and for that reason, we think that the Lions are better placed to emerge on top in the upcoming match and progress to the grand finale.
