MI vs KXIP Match Prediction - Oct 18, 2020

The Mumbai Indians have dominated yet another IPL 2020 match and regained their place at the top of the league table. They may only be separated by the Delhi Capitals by net run-rate at this point but there does not seem to any other team close to its might.

MI’s opponent in this next match is the Kings XI Punjab team. While KXIP is at the bottom of the IPL 2020 table right now with just two wins to its name, it is a dangerous team to come up against. It made some more changes to its team and managed to come away with a victory against Royal Challengers Bangalore.

Can the Mumbai Indians continue their winning streak against KXIP in this next match?

MI vs KXIP IPL 2020 is going to be played at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, Dubai on the 18th of October.

MI vs KXIP Team Previews

Mumbai Indians

Mumbai Indians are a complete unit. They literally do not seem to have a chink in their armor right now and are dominating IPL 2020. They lost their opening match to CSK and have since then only lost a Super-Over contest to RCB.

The consistency with which they are able to win in different situations is remarkable.

Now, however, MI is going to move out of its preferred Abu Dhabi setting. This match is going to be played in Dubai and most of MI’s remaining matches are now out of Abu Dhabi. We can expect some new challenges thrown at MI and maybe some tougher questions asked.

In the batting department, the return of fluency of Quinton de Kock is a great sign. He was great against KKR and made a mockery of a small chase. Rohit Sharma, Quinton de Kock, Ishan Kishan, Hardik Pandya, Kieron Pollard, and Krunal Pandya form a very strong batting lineup. It has power all throughout and the capability of upping the ante at any moment.

Nathan Coulter-Nile made his debut in IPL 2020 against KKR but the rest of the attack remained the same. KXIP has a good batting lineup that is going to be tough to bowl to. The role of Rahul Chahar is going to keep increasing and Krunal Pandya may also need to be more attacking as well.

Trent Boult, Jasprit Bumrah, and Kieron Pollard (if necessary) round out a superb bowling attack.

There are no real weaknesses in this team and so they will either have to have a very bad day or be outplayed by a brilliant team to lose.

Kings XI Punjab

It was great to see Chris Gayle back in the team against RCB, even though the move made no sense from a tactical perspective. KXIP did not have trouble with its batting and so should have instead been working on its batting. They, however, removed Mujeeb ur Rehman and added Chris Gayle to make the batting stronger!

It turned out to be perfect as Gayle smashed five sixes and kept the momentum going.

We don’t think KXIP is going to change the composition of its playing eleven again. In its current setup, KXIP now has to win its matches with the bat.

Mayank Aggarwal, Lokesh Rahul, Chris Gayle, Nicholas Pooran, and Glenn Maxwell make KXIP a world-class batting lineup. The problem is going to be to ensure that all the players play freely now that they have the depth needed.

The bowling lineup has been a bit dodgy but if Mohammad Shami can continue to pick early wickets up front then KXIP will remain competitive. Chris Jordan is going to be the designated death bowler even though his IPL record is terrible.

Ravi Bishnoi and Murugan Ashwin seem to be the two preferred spinners at the moment with Glenn Maxwell and Deepak Hooda to chip in as needed.

This is not a bad team, not at all, but to expect things to change completely because Gayle is back is also not realistic.

KXIP needs to avoid slowdowns in the middle and also needs to ensure its bowlers are in top form. Otherwise, the victory in the previous match could be a short-lived moment of joy in IPL 2020.

MI vs KXIP Toss Prediction

The team that wins the toss is going to want to bat first. The dew seems to have disappeared as the weather is changing and so the chasing side has no major advantage. If anything, the ball tends to get a bit more difficult to hit as the pitch slows down. The team that bats first should be seen as having a big advantage.

Pitch and Conditions

Dubai has been serving up some real slow tracks in recent matches, even slower than in Abu Dhabi. We hope they also leave a bit of grass on the surface so that the ball comes on better but that remains to be seen.

On the evidence of previous matches, we think a slow surface that will continue to get harder to bat on as the match progresses is likely. Out of the two teams, MI certainly seems to be better-equipped with whatever the surface throws at them.

Par score at Dubai now seems to be around 160 and anything above 175 is going to be very hard to chase down.

MI vs KXIP Betting Tips

MI is the team to beat in this contest, no matter what. While both the teams have two strong batting lineups, the form and consistency of MI are superior. Also, we think MI has a better bowling-attack than KXIP and that could be the difference between the two teams.

Bet on MI to win.

This is a difficult one to pick because the opening partnerships on both the teams have been doing so well. We have based this on the bowling attacks and we think Mohammad Shami, Glenn Maxwell, and maybe Arshdeep Singh have a better chance of picking up an early wicket.

The odds being offered to bet on the best performing opening partnership this season are fantastic and we think it is worth taking a chance on it.

Mayank Aggarwal, Lokesh Rahul, Chris Gayle, Nicholas Pooran, and Glenn Maxwell. This is a superb collection of six-hitters. Granted Mumbai has a great lineup as well but once again, the risk being taken is well-rewarded. You can think of putting some money on this one and potentially doubling it.

The odds on this accumulator are just ridiculous and well worth a punt. There are two major events that need to come through for you to be a big winner, though. Rohit Sharma needs to be the top-scorer for his team and Trent Boult needs to be the best bowler. We can certainly see both of the things happening on a good day.

A small punt on this bet is definitely worth it.
