MLS vs PER Match Prediction - Jan 18, 2020

The Melbourne Stars and the Perth Scorchers are getting ready to face against each other for the second time in succession. The first match was played at the Perth Stadium where the Melbourne Stars absolutely crushed the Perth Scorchers. In fact, that match was s one-sided that we don’t think it should be taken into consideration at all.

The Melbourne Stars have been far and away the best side of BBL 09 so far with nine wins from their ten matches. They have three more wins than the next closest team and it looks quite certain that the Stars will finish in the top-2 after the league stage.

The Perth Scorchers have been quite unpredictable and inconsistent but with five wins from ten matches, they are still in the mix to make the playoffs.

Melbourne Stars vs Perth Scorchers BBL 09 is going to be played at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, Melbourne on the 18th of January 2020.

MLS vs PER Team Previews

Melbourne Stars

The Melbourne Stars have been dominant this season thanks to some brilliant performances from their senior players. Marcus Stoinis and Glenn Maxwell have led the batting charts for the Melbourne Stars while the bowling has also benefitted from some fantastic performances from Haris Rauf and Sandeep Lamichhane.

Haris Rauf has been so good that he has been picked for the Pakistani national side and is not going to be a part of the Melbourne Stars squad anymore.

There is still plenty of quality in the Stars bowling side and they are going to be tough to stop. Nathan Coulter-Nile, Sandeep Lamichhane, Daniel Worrall, and Jackson Coleman are some of the players that can be expected to be a part of the bowling attack.

This is a decent bowling attack but not necessarily one that cant be attacked. Haris Rauf was in tremendous form and his absence is going to be one that will affect the Stars for sure.

The batting lineup of the Stars is good enough to compensate for that, though. Marcus Stoinis, Hilton Cartwright, Ben Dunk, Glenn Maxwell, Nick Larkin, and Seb Gotch form a long and powerful batting unit.

Not only is the Melbourne Stars batting formidable on paper but it is also in excellent form.

Perth Scorchers

A terrible batting performance was the reason why the Perth Scorchers failed to compete against the Melbourne Stars in the previous match these two sides played. The Scorchers have struggled to get the best out of its players and there don’t seem to be any easy solutions in grasp.

Josh Inglis has shown the talent that makes him one of the most exciting players in Australia but his consistency needs a lot of work. Similarly, Liam Livingstone has shown us what he can do at his best but we have not seen it for long enough for the Perth Scorchers to actually benefit from his talent.

Cameron Green, Cameron Bancroft, and youngsters like Tim David or Jaron Morgan have been unable to provide the kind of runs that the Perth Scorchers need.

The best batsman for the Perth Scorchers has been Mitchell Marsh with his ability to hit big sixes and score at a fantastic rate for a long time. He is the one player that can take the attack to the Melbourne Stars along with some help from his top-order.

The Perth Scorchers have a good bowling attack, one that did not get a chance to show what it is capable of in the previous match. Bowlers like Chris Jordan, Jhye Richardson, Mitchell Marsh, and Joel Paris form a very potent attack. The fifth bowler duties are performed by Mitchell Marsh and he is a capable bowler as well.

Give this bowling attack a good total to defend and things may not be so simple for the Melbourne Stars anymore.

Pitch and Conditions

There has been some much-needed rain in Melbourne over the last few days, however, the forecast for match day is for a dry day. We should be able to get a full match in without any interruptions. The pitch at the MCG has been pretty decent for run-scoring although a bit on the slower side.

These are two strong batting sides that are competing against each other and this is why we think that a total of about 160 can be considered as par for the surface.

Spinners are going to have a massive role to play in the second inning of the match.

MLS vs PER Betting Tips

We think this is the time to bet on an upset. The Perth Scorchers have been quite inconsistent and are up against the form team of BBL 09. That has made the markets a bit too favorable to the Melbourne Stars and we think that can be taken some advantage of.

The loss of Haris Rauf is a big one for the Melbourne Stars. At the same time, the Perth Scorchers batting is due a good day soon.

Bet on the Perth Scorchers to win.
