MS vs QG Team Previews

Multan Sultans

The Multan Sultans have been reactive to their shortcomings and changed up their batting order a little. Shan Masood was getting a little stuck at the opening slot and have given that up to Moeen Ali, AN excellent decision considering the ease with which Moeen Ali can clear the boundaries.

Shan Masood himself moved to number three. The move seemed to have paid some immediate dividends as both players got a sixty-plus score and helped the Multan Sultans to a competitive 186 in their previous match.

Zeeshan Ashraf also played a few attractive shots at the top of the order but the rest of the batting failed quite miserably.

Rilee Rossouw, Ravi Bopara, Khushdil Shah, and the all-rounders below them could not contribute to the total. Not one of them scored over ten runs and could not provide the finishing kick to the inning. The dependence on the top-order is not unique to the Multan Sultans, however, it is quite pronounced in their case.

Moeen Ali himself is not one of the most dependable batsmen and Shan Masood can be put under pressure quite easily. The overseas players like Rilee Rossouw and Ravi Bopara need to find a way to start contributing with the bat otherwise the Multan SYltans are going to be in a world of trouble.

Mohammad Irfan, Moeen Ali, Shahid Afridi, Sohail Tanvir, and Imran Tahir were the bowlers that Multan Sultan picked in their previous match. This is a strong bowling unit but definitely not one that is ranked among the best in the league.

The leading bowlers are all past their prime and can struggle when put under pressure.

Quetta Gladiators

Ben Cutting played an incredible knock to steal the match from Islamabad United for Quetta Gladiators. His inning typified the kind of crunch performances the less heralded players have been coming up with for the Quetta Gladiators.

Players like Azam Khan, Ben Cutting, Sarfaraz Ahmed, and Mohammad Hasnain have been the driving force behind Quetta Gladiators success at this stage. Jason Roy has been surprisingly consistent at the top of the order as well.

He has been giving himself some more time to get set before taking the attack and that is working for him. He also seems to prefer the amount of pace gets to face in this league, something that does not happen in places like India and Bangladesh.

Shane Watson and Ahmed Shehzad have struggled for runs in PSL 2020 but both the players looked in good touch before getting out in the previous match. Shane Watson has become a notoriously slow starter and takes a few matches before getting into his groove. This could be the time when he starts to score some runs which is a good sign for the Quetta Gladiators.

Ahmed Shehzad will also be under pressure to score some runs and put his name in contention for the T20 World Cup later this year.

Overall, though, the performances of the middle and lower-order have given the Quetta Gladiators batting a very dangerous look.

Naseem Shah and Mohammad Hasnain have led the bowling, making the Quetta Gladiators the most exciting bowling attack to watch. Both the bowlers bowl with genuine pace and hurry up the batsmen.

Tymal Mills and Sohail Khan are good back bowlers with Mohammad Nawaz and Ben Cutting to chip in as needed as well.

The Quetta Gladiators look to be in a good spot right now.

Pitch and Conditions

The conditions in Multan are decent for batting but the pitch is definitely a bit on the slower side. We have seen the batting conditions get a bit better in the second inning and that is something to keep in mind while placing your bets.

The batsmen should continue to be able to make merry and the bowlers will need to be on point with their execution.
