NK vs OV Match Prediction & Betting Tips - Dec 16, 2019

The Northern Knights were absolutely demolished in their opening match of the Super Smash. They had the opportunity to try and gain an advantage against a Central Stags side that was missing some of its key players but could not make the most of it.

The Otago Volts, on the other hand, started their campaign with an absolutely stunning victory against the Auckland Aces. That was not a result that many foresaw but such is the beauty of T20 cricket. Can the Volts continue their giant-killing spree against the Northern Knights as well or will normal service resume in the Super Smash 2019-20?

Northern Knights vs Otago Volts Super Smash 2019-20 is going to be played at Seddon Park, Hamilton on the 16th of December 2019.

NK vs OV Team Previews

Northern Knights

A defeat by 120 runs to start their Super Smash 2019-20 campaign was anything but ideal for the Northern Knights. Their bowling attack boasting of big international players came to nothing as they let the Central Stags smash them to all parts of the ground and set a target of 222.

The Knights them covered themselves in even more disgrace by being bowled out for just 101 in return. They barely survived for 14 overs and could not make a fight of it at all.

The only way to reconcile after such a game is to move on from it completely.

The bowling attack has to reassess what it’s plans are and work on their execution. Scott Kuggeleijn went for 60 runs in his four overs, Daryl Mitchell gave 21 runs in his only over, while Anurag Verma and Matthew Fisher were expensive as well.

Only Ish Sodhi managed to escape from this carnage unscathed with figures of 27 for 2 from his four overs. Anton Devcich bowled pretty well also and could have actually completed his quota.

This bowling attack continues to have some very good bowlers in it and one bad performance is not going to change that.

The batting was under tremendous pressure chasing a big total in the previous match. It will hopefully be able to perform better in this next match. Anton Devcich, Dean Brownlie, Joe Carter, and Daryl Mitchell form a decent batting lineup. Getting into form and moving on from the disaster in their previous game is going to be the priority now.

Otago Volts

A brilliant batting performance from the Otago Volts secured them a victory against the star-studded Auckland Aces in their previous match. Even 106 not out from Glenn Phillips was not enough to chase down the 210 that Otago got.

We were concerned about the batting depth in the Otago Volts side but Neil Broom made all those concerns irrelevant. He scored 93 off just 57 balls and was helped by 52 from 23 balls from Hamish Rutherford as well.

Dean Foxtrot came in and smashed 36 from 18 balls to give the inning the finishing boost it needed, a contribution that eventually turned out to be decisive.

With Josh Finnie and Anaru Kitchen in the lineup as well, the Otago Volts are suddenly looking like a decent batting side. We are still concerned about what may happen if Broom and Rutherford get out early but form is a very big thing in T20 cricket and we are not going to oppose that.

The bowling unit for Otago Volts may have done the job on the night but it did not cover itself in glory. The Volts gave away 197 runs and came very close to losing a game that they should have won by a fair margin.

Michael Rippon managed to get his four overs away for just 20 runs and picked up two wickets as well. This was the bowling performance of the entire match and the one that won Otago the game. Jacob Duffy also bowled decently but every other bowler received a proper pasting.

The Otago Volts must improve their bowling performance against the Northern Knights who have some very dangerous batsmen in their midst as well.

The weather forecast in Hamilton for match day is not very good. There is plenty of rain around in the morning of the match and even though the forecast improves around the evening, the rain is unlikely to stop completely.

We could find it difficult to get a result in this match.

NK vs OV Betting Tips

The Northern Knights have disappointed us massively after their performance in the previous game while the Otago Volts outperformed expectations. If there is a result in this game, then we think it may go in the favor of the Otago Volts due to the form of the batsmen.
