NOT vs LEI Match Prediction - Sep 04, 2020

The top of the table clash of North Group in Vitality T20 Blast happened to have a rather humdrum fate as the match was abandoned with a ball bowled. As a result, Nottinghamshire and Lancashire are still tied at the top with only net run-rate separating them. The Outlaws will have a chance to strengthen their position at the top in their next match when they take on Leicestershire Foxes, who are breathing right down their neck. The winner of this match is likely to get to the top of the table with the loser dropping down to the third. With such a shuffle possible, we expect both sides to come all guns blazing into this contest. The match is to be played at Trent Bridge Cricket Ground, Nottingham, on 4th September 2020.

Nottinghamshire

Nottinghamshire Outlaws couldn't have been happier with the performance they have posted in the tournament so far. With two wins and two wash-outs, they are currently sitting pretty at the top of the North Group ladder and will be looking to consolidate their position here. They have already led them to a strong position to qualify for the knockouts and a few more wins should be enough to take them through.

Prior to their wash-out against Lancashire, Nottinghamshire Outlaws posted a solid win over Yorkshire Vikings as they chased down a towering total of 190 with significant ease. Although the surface was easy to bat on, a total of 190 was always a tough ask. To make things tougher for the Notts, the Viking sent Alex Hales and Joe Clarke back to the pavilion inside the first two overs. However, Notts' batsmen looked determined and went about their business in a rather methodical manner. Chris Nash and Ben Duckett stitched together a terrific partnership, which not only brought them back into the match but also pushed Vikings on the backfoot.

Not just their batting, but their bowling has also done pretty well. Keeping Yorkshire under a total of 200 was a good job in itself, especially considering the start that the Yorks got. With an excellent amalgamation of spinners and seamers, Nottinghamshire's bowling attack is capable of adapting to any surface in the competition.

On paper, the Notts have an excellent side. With experience, exuberance, and creativity available, they seem to have all bases covered. Beating Notts will be difficult for any side in the competition, even if the Notts continue to perform the way they have done so far.

Leicestershire

Just like the Notts, the Foxes too are unbeaten in the tournament so far. Having secured one less win in the same number of matches, Leicestershire Foxes are placed at the third spot on the points table. They have an incredible net run-rate of 1.5, which could be pretty useful if things get close for any position in the points table.

Leicestershire's first and only win the competition came against Durham Jets with Aaron Lilley and Gareth Delany playing a crucial role. Coming off two wash-outs, Leicestershire decided to bat first after winning the toss, but the start that they had was far from what they wanted. The lost Harry Dearden early in the innings and the onus shifted from him to Gareth Delany.

Although he was fortunate, Gareth Delany played a game-changing knock and combined with Aaron Lilley to score a match-winning partnership. He made 68 runs and once he was dismissed, Lilley maintained the momentum. Lilley ended up with a 33-ball fifty as Leicestershire Foxes ended up with 177 for 6.

Leicestershire's fast-bowler looked belligerent from the start as they bowled in tight channels, kept varying the pace, and maintained the pressure until the spinners took over. Callum Parkinson then single-handedly ran through the Jets' lineup as he picked up three crucial wickets and was ably supported by the rest of the bowlers.

Overall, the Foxes looked solid as in their only completed match. Having said that, they would want their other batsmen to contribute as well. It was only Aaron Lilley and Gareth Delany, who got Leicestershire to a challenging total. With bowlers already bowling in rhythm and two batsmen doing well, Leicestershire could be a very dangerous team if all its batsmen start scoring.

NOT vs LEI Toss Prediction

It is a difficult ground to defend, regardless of the total on the board. It is an evening match and the dew-factor could come into play as well. Both teams would want to have a score in their mind while going into bat and, therefore, winning the toss and fielding first would be the way to go here.

Pitch and Conditions

Trent Bridge Cricket Ground is one of England's highest scoring ground. True-paced surface here allows batsmen to play through the line and the short boundaries means that even mishits go the maximums. With negiligible chances of rain on Friday, this could be one of the highest scoring matches of the tournament so far. Bowlers are certainly going to have a hard time here. The team batting first would be looking to put a total of at least 200 runs on the board and even that might not be safe here.

NOT vs LEI Betting Tips

The two teams are placed almost neck and neck on the points table and this is an important contest for both of them. On paper, Nottinghamshire Outlaws appear to be a better team than Leicestershire Foxes and should do well. Having said that, Leicestershire's bowlers did a fantastic job against the Jets and are fully capable to demolish the Outlaws' batting too. We do not think that will happen, though. Nottinghamshire Outlaws have plenty of experience available in the bank and with the advantage of playing at home, they are certainly better placed to emerge on top in this upcoming encounter.
