PLR vs JZS Match Prediction - Nov 22, 2019

The Jozi Stars have had the worst imaginable start to the Mzansi Super League 2019. They are the defending champions of the MSL and people expected them to be strong contenders for the title this season as well. As things have unfolded, the Jozi Stars have lost all four of their matches and are quickly falling out of contention for a playoff spot as well.

They are now going to be taking on the Paarl Rocks who have won one out of the two matches that they have played this season so far. This could be an ideal opportunity for the Paarl Rocks to really put a big rival under tremendous pressure.

Paarl Rocks vs Jozi Stars MSL T20 is going to be played at Boland Park, Paarl on the 22nd of November 2019.

PLR vs JZS Team Previews

Paarl Rocks

James Vince made an immediate impact for the Paarl Rocks as he struck 86 not out from just 53 deliveries and helped his side to a total of 185. That was an above-par total and should have helped the Paarl Rocks win their previous encounter but Dean Elgar played a brilliant inning and denied them.

Still, the signs for the Paarl Rocks batting look good heading into this match.

Henry Davids struck 30 in the previous match and seemed to be getting into this best form while Faf du Plessis is striking the ball beautifully. We were disappointed to see Cameron Delport throw away his wicket after getting to 19.

We rate Delport very highly and think it is just a matter of time before he gets a big score to his name.

With James Vince at four and Dwaine Pretorious at five, the batting depth of the Paarl Rocks is a bit better than before but still not great. There is nothing much to follow after the top-5 and that is a risk for the Paarl Rocks.

The bowling attack for the Paarl Rocks is pretty good thanks to the presence of players like Hardus Viljoen, Bjorn Fortuin, and Tabraiz Shamsi. Isuru Udana and Dwaine Pretorius are also international bowlers to lend a very balanced look to the lineup.

They did not have a good game against the Tshwane Spartans and will be keen to make amends. The Jozi Stars may be on a losing run but their batting lineup is still pretty strong and the Paarl Rocks bowling attack has to be at its best.

Paarl Rocks Playing 11

C Delport, Henry Davids, Faf du Plessis, J Vince, Dwaine Pretorius, Mangaliso Mosehle, Isuru Udana, Hardus Viljoen, Bjorn Fortuin, Tabraiz Shamsi, Kerwin Mungroo.

Jozi Stars

The first couple of matches for the Jozi Stars were those where the Stars played well but got beaten by a better performance from the opposition. The next two, though, have seen their performance spiral and now get into some troubling category.

Chris Gayle has been a major disappointment at the top of the order and the Jozi Stars may actually look at replacing him for the rest of MSL 2019. Reeza Hendricks started with a run of fifties but he is not going to score every single time alone. Temba Bavuma has done well in the chances he has got but not really gone on to make a big score.

The strength of the batting lineup was what vaulted the Jozi Stars into winning position last season and now they must find a way to find that form again.

On paper, the bowling attack for the Jozi Stars is very good as well. Having Kagiso Rabada as the spearhead of the attack is a big advantage and he is backed up by bowlers with plenty of international experience.

Aaron Phangiso, Duanne Olivier, and Simon Harmer are all first-rate bowlers.

Surprisingly, though, there is not one match in MSL 2019 where the bowlers have been able to win the match for the Jozi Stars. They have even struggled to keep the opposition batsmen from piling up runs.

The pieces are all there but for some reason the combination is not quite clicking.

Can the Jozi Stars change things around in this match and finally start playing to potential? We think they can.

Jozi Stars Playing 11

Reeza Hendricks, Chris Gayle, Temba Bavuma, RVD Dussen, Ryan Rickelton, Sinethemba Qeshile, DT Christian, SR Harmer, Aaron Phangiso, Kagiso Rabada, Duanne Olivier.

Pitch and Conditions

The weather in Paarl has one of the saving graces of MSL 2019 which has been plagued by rain. The forecast for this match is also excellent and we should not have anything to worry about weather-wise.

The pitch at Boland Park is going to be good for batting while the large outfield gives the bowlers a fighting chance as well.

PLR vs JZS Betting Tips

We think the extended break between matches would have done the Jozi Stars good and think they are going to come into this match with a fresh mindset. The team has the players to win and they are just too good to be underperforming consistently. The Paarl Rocks are tough opponents but their lack of batting depth may come back to haunt them.

Bet on the Jozi Stars to win.
