PLR vs TWS Match Prediction - Nov 17, 2019

The action in the Mzansi Super League shifts to Paarl and we finally hope to see the Tshwane Spartans on the park. Just like Durban Heat, this is going to be the third match for Tshwane Spartans but they have yet to complete a match. Both their previous outings were spoiled by rain although the Spartans were in a spot of bother in one of those matches.

Now, they take on the impressive Paarl Rocks that won their only completed match so far by 86 runs.

Can AB de Villiers and his side upset the Paarl Rocks at home? Let’s find out.

Paarl Rocks vs Tshwane Spartans MSL T20 is going to be played at Boland Park, Paarl on the 17th of November 2019.

PLR vs TWS Team Previews

Paarl Rocks

The Paarl Rocks had suffered a big blow with the loss of JP Duminy before the MSL began but they did not let it make a difference in the first match. A fantastic bowling performance led by Tabraiz Shamsi was behind their massive victory.

The bowling attack is quite rounded and has players like Isuru Udana, Tabraiz Shamsi, Bjorn Fortuin, Dwaine Pretorius, and Hardus Viljoen. There is no weak link here and they are going to test the Tshwane Spartans batting for sure.

We like the way in which Faf du Plessis handles his spinners because he is very aggressive and does not mind if they go for a few wickets in the process.

Dwaine Pretorius and Ferisco Adams are two good all-round options in the side to give it some balance as well.

The batting depth for the Paarl Rocks seemed a bit shallow in the previous match since Hardus Vijoen was batting at number 5. James Vince is in very good form and would have joined the squad now that his commitments to the English white ball were over.

Faf du Plessis, Henry Davids, Cameron Delport, and James Vince will make a hgandy top-order followed by Dwaine Pretorius and Isuru Udana down the order.

Tshwane Spartans

Every single game that the Tshwane Spartans are going to play is one that you have to ask yourself,” Is this the one where AB de Villiers wins the match on his own?” There is no accounting for AB de Villiers genius and we just have to hope that he gets going in the matches where we want the Tshwane Spartans to win.

The team around him is not very strong. The Spartans were 33 for 4 in 7.1 overs against the Nelson Mandela Bay Giants before the rain arrived. Theunis de Bruyn opened the batting alongside Vaughn van Jaarsveld with Dean Elgar at three and AB de Villiers at 4.

Clearly, this is an attempt to try and lengthen the batting lineup while giving the lesser batsmen a license to play freely knowing they have some very good players behind. Heinrich Klaasen at number five is also a very good batsman but that is about the end of the road for the Tshwane Spartans.

Petrus van Biljon and Roelof van der Merwe are not going to strike fear in any team’s heart and are a part of a long tail.

The bowling unit of the Tshwane Spartans is a bit better. Morne Morkel, Lungi Ngidi, Lutho Sipamla, and Roelof van der Merwe are all very decent bowlers. Corbin Bosch will also be expected to bowl his quota of overs in most games while Vaughn van Jaarsved can contribute by rolling his arm over as well.

There is some definite quality and some established names that are going to give the Tshwane Spartans a good chance to make an impact every time they bowl.

Pitch and Conditions

The sun is out in Paarl and it is expected to remain that way for the duration of the match. Fans can rejoice because we are finally going to see AB de Villiers back on South African soil after a frustrating wait.

The pitch at Paarl is good for batting with a large outfield and not too much assistance for the bowlers. The games tend to be high scoring at Paarl and that is what we expect in this match as well.

PLR vs TWS Betting Tips

We think the Paarl Rocks are a better-balanced team than the Tshwane Spartans for sure and are going to be the favorites in this match. They have a better bowling attack and more depth in their batting. The Tshwane Spartans have AB De Villiers and can never be counted out but we would not recommend betting on them.
