RSAW vs PAKW Match Prediction - May 18, 2019

The Pakistani women have really surprised South African women on this tour up until now. They managed to tie the ODI series and now hold a 1-0 advantage in the T20 series. Can South Africa women stage a comeback as they did in the ODI’s or will this be the start of a series win that Pakistan women have been waiting for?

This is a five-match T20 series and losing this match is not going to be the end for South Africa women. However, there is no doubt that making a comeback from 2-0 down and having to win three matches in a row is going to be difficult.

Pakistan women have the confidence and belief on their side. This series will show whether they have the consistency as well.

RSAW vs PAKW Team Previews

South Africa Women

South Africa women have been suffering too many top-order collapses in the recent weeks and that is something that is going to be a big concern. Two wickets in the first over three wickets in the first five ended the hopes of the South Africa women there itself.

The top-order was unable to face Sana Mir and allowed itself to be pushed on the backfoot from the very beginning.

Here is the thing, though. We expect the South African women to strike back hard in the upcoming match. Lizelle Lee, Marizanne Kapp, and Sune Luus are all world-class players. Lizelle Lee, in particular, can be very destructive when she gets going.

South Africa women need to give themselves a bit more time before going hard at the Pakistani women. They must remember that they were in the game even after scoring a small total of 119. Had they had 20 or 30 more runs then the result may have been very different.

Runs from du Preez, Chloe Tyron, and some lusty hits from Shabnim Ismail helped add some level of respectability to the South African women scorecard. We don’t expect another top-order collapse and think that the South African women will put in a stronger batting performance.

The bowling was also not too great for South Africa. They also got some early wickets but were unable to keep the pressure on the Pakistani women for any sustained time. Kapp, Ismail, Klass, and Luus need to better in this respect as well.

The South Africans need to realize that this is a hugely improved Pakistani side that is not going to give them any easy matches. Every player has to be at her best.

Pakistan Women

An excellent performance from Pakistan women gives them a 1-0 lead. Taking a lead in the series is a big advantage and we think they will have the confidence to play without any worries in this match. They have South Africa on the backfoot and will not hesitate to press home the advantage.

The reasons for Pakistan women’s success in the first match are repeatable. Sana Mir is on the top of her game and will continue to come hard at South Africa while the batting order has improved tremendously since the addition of Nida dar to the side.

Bismah Maroof has also become a very dependable player and that bodes very well for Pakistan’s future. Javeria Rauf and Omaima Sohail did not score too many runs in the first match and both of them are very serious players as well.

This is the first time that we can remember where a Pakistani women’s side playing abroad is able to match the hosts for batting strength and maybe even better them.

The risk for Pakistan remains the early loss of wickets. There is not too much batting after the first four. The lower middle order has Sana Mir, however, her batting has not been up to the mark for quite sometime now.

If Pakistan ends up losing early wickets then Mir may have to dust off the batting gloves and take center stage in this aspect of the game as well. The same is the case with Pakistan’s bowling as well. They depend on Sana Mir to give them the initial breakthroughs and then pile on the pressure.

If the South Africans are able to play off her initial spell and get off to a good start then they may find the going a lot tougher.

Pitch and Conditions

The second T20 international between South Africa women and Pakistan women is going to be played at the City Oval, Pietermaritzburg. The weather forecast is for a clear day without too much chance of rain. The pitch at the City Oval is good for batting. It always tends to have a little bit of extra bounce which generally translates to a good batting surface in women’s cricket.

RSAW vs PAKW Dream11 Prediction

It is a bit more difficult to try and find hidden gems in women's cricket because there seem to be a similar set of players doing the bulk of the work. Picking the right captain and vice-captain is important in any Dream 11 competition but we believe it is especially true for women's cricket. here is the Dream11 team for South Africa women vs Pakistan women.

Wicketkeeper: The choice here is between Sidra Nawaz and Sinalo Jafta. Neither of these two wicketkeepers is a particularly good batter and both have a similar level of skill behind the wickets. The side whose bowling attack performs better is going to be able to get more chances and we think that is Sinalo Jafta for this match.

Batters: We have picked Javeria Khan, Bismah Maroof, Lizelle Lee, Du Preez, and Tazmin Brits from this category. It remains to be seen whether Laura Wolvaardt is going to be a part of the playing eleven in this match. If she becomes available then we definitely recommend picking her in the side as well. We have picked just two Pakistani batters because we believe they must score runs if Pakistan has to be competitive in this match.

All-rounders: We have picked Nida Dar and Sune Luus as our two all-rounders. Nida Dar has been in terrific form this series. She is able to play the power game with the bat and pick up important wickets. Sune Luus is also in good batting touch and almost always rolls her arm over as well. Sana Mir was a tempting choice but we think she is going to be in everyone's side and are taking a slight risk by not picking her. If she performs our Dream 11 team is going to sink but if she does nothing of note then we gain a significant advantage.

Bowlers: We have picked Shabnim Ismail, Nashra Sandhu, and Moseline Daniels as our three bowlers to round out our Dream 11 team. Shabnim Ismail has been in the wickets in most matches and her extra pace always makes her dangerous. Moseline Daniels has to improve while Nashra Sandhi is dependable and a good addition to the side in our opinion.

Captain and Vice-Captain: We have picked Lizelle Lee as the captain and Nida Dar as the vice-captain for this match.
