Our Prediction: to win, N/A Bet on to win for Real Money
The exciting group stage of Champions Trophy has finally come to an end and the semifinalists are decided. The first semifinal match will be played on Wednesday, 19th June. Both South Africa and England have reached South Africa after facing elimination threat at least once in the group stage. South Africa would be desperate to win this game to remove the so called ‘Chokers’ tag associated with them. The hosts would be looking to make it to the final and impress the crowd. It is once again expected to be a cracker of a game between two of World’s best sides.
England has had a reasonably good campaign in the tournament so far. They’ve made it to the finals without any one sided loss registered to their name. England topped the group with four points with a win against New Zealand and Australia. Alastair Cook and his men have done well both in bowling departments. England is also looking to be one of the best fielding sides in the competition. Alastair Cook seems to be back in form with Trott and Root to follow to build the innings. Their bowlers have done exceedingly well, especially at the beginning of the innings. England has looked settled and would be a tough side to beat if conditions assist their bowlers.
South Africa has always been known as one of the strongest sides in international cricket. Having made it to the knockout stages so frequently and getting knocked out when it really matters has granted them the title of ‘Chokers’. This time tough, the Proteas look to be an even better side with nice composition of youth and experience. Hashim Amla provides the stability at the top of the order while the likes of Miller, du Plessis and skipper himself can provide boost to the score whenever required. With the presence of Mclaren, Peterson and Morris, their batting gets strength without compromising in bowling department. South Africa would love to remove the ‘Choker’s tag and with the team they have, it would be very difficult for any opponent from doing so.
It is hard to choose between the sides as both of them are looking in good form considering their previous encounter. Both the teams had rain affected last game and it would be interesting to see how the teams play in 50 Overs. England have the players like Morgan, Bopara and Buttler to up the scoring rate. All South African players can keep up to the scoring rate and clear boundaries at will. With a strong bowling attack and balanced lineup, South Africa is expected to win this crucial encounter.

England have a good opening pair in Cook and Bell. So far, they’ve succeeded in providing a stable start to their innings. However, it looks like that they do not have the flamboyance to score runs quickly right from the word go. South Africa, on the contrary, at top have the services of Amla and Ingram who can score quickly without taking many risks. Considering the above facts, I think South Africa would have a better score after the first 15 Overs.
