The Sydney Sixers are one of the most successful sides of the WBBL. They are the defending champions and one of the favorites to win WBBL 04. It is a testament to the depth of Australian domestic cricket that the women’s BBL has been very competitive and fun to watch. There are very few countries in the world that have the depth in their women’s domestic setup to be able to put together such a tournament.

The Sydney Sixers will be taking on their city rivals, Sydney Thunder in this match of the WBBL. The Sydney Sixers would have played their second match against the Perth Scorchers by the time this match comes around while Sydney Thunder would be playing its second match of the WBBL.

SYDW vs SYTW Team Previews

Sydney Sixers Women

Perhaps the most destructive batter in women’s cricket right now, Alyssa Healy, is one of the biggest draws of the women’s BBL. She headlined the Australian win in the WorldT20 and has started the WBBL with fire as well.

She scored 70 of 47 balls in the first match against the Melbourne Stars and was a part of a 100 run partnership with Elysse Perry as well. Unfortunately for, though, her teammates were not able to make the most of the platform that she and Perry had set.

He Sydney Sixers ended up scoring 165 runs, a good target, but lesser than what they were on track to get.

Lizelle Lee from the Melbourne Stars then laid into the Sydney Sixers bowling and consigned them to a shock defeat.

The Sydney Sixers will be wary of Sydney Thunder. Their own batting is pretty strong but the collapse in the first match could make the openers a bit wary of failure. As all professional sportspersons know, the fear of failure can actually be crippling.

There is a fair bit of batting in the Sydney Sixers lineup. Healy, Perry, Gardner, van Niekerk, Kapp, and McGlashan make up the strongest batting lineup in the WBBL.

The Sydney Sixers also have some good all-rounders that are going to contribute with the ball as well. Kapp, Perry, Niekerk, and Gardner are all players who can contribute a full quota of overs in every game.

This gives the Sixers a lot of flexibility when it comes to their bowling. There are potentially seven or more bowlers in the side that can be called upon to do the job.

A sedate start to the WBBL should not mistake punters into thinking that the Sydney Sixers are a weak team by any stretch of the imagination.

Sydney Thunder Women

Sydney Thunder started its WBBL campaign with an emphatic win over the Melbourne Renegades. It was a complete performance in every sense of the way. Sydney Thunder kept the Melbourne Renegades to 98 runs even though they played out the entire quota of 20 overs and then proceeded to chase it down in the 17th over with ease.

The only thing that may have ranked would have been losing four wickets, all to one bowler,

Sydney Thunder may be bolstered by the arrival of Harmanpreet Kaur from India as well. Kaur is a renowned power hitter and hit the maximum number of sixes in the recently concluded WorldT20. In fact, she started the tournament with a blistering century to set the pace for everyone else.

Her addition to the side is going to strengthen an already strong side.

Apart from Kaur, Sydney Thunder has Haynes, Blackwell, Taylor, and Priest in the side to give it some very good batting depth as well.

Thunder will be wary of the Sixers batting strength but will definitely be overawed by it.

Taylor is also going to play a vital role in the bowling attack which is going to be supported by Bates, Griffith, Gibson, Carey, and Vakarewa.

Sydney Thunder has some talented bowlers but it definitely does not have the same kind of depth that the Sydney Sixers have to call upon.
