TTN vs LIO Match Prediction - Jan 31, 2020

South Africa are going through a tough patch in all formats of the game and have a long and bumpy ride in the months to come. The Proteas need their young players to complement the likes of Quinton de Kock, Faf du Plessis, and Kagiso Rabada and take them to the heights they were once so used to. Now that South Africa's limited-overs side is in rebuilding phase, the youngsters of South Africa have a pretty good opportunity to make it big. Consequently, the upcoming Momentum ODD Cup will be of significant importance, not just for the players to make a mark, but also for the selectors to pick talented young crickets and provide them with an extended run at the highest level. The first match of the tournament is set to be played between the Titans and the Lions at SuperSport Park, Centurion, on Friday, 31st January.

TTN vs LIO Team Previews

Titans

Titans have arguably been the best domestic team in South Africa in this format of the game. They are the defending champions and will be looking to start their 2020 campaign on a winning note as well. Last year, Titans were the standout performers as they topped the league stage, followed it up with a close win over Cape Cobras in the semifinals, and then claimed the title with a massive 135-run victory over Dolphins in the grand finale.

Titans have an excellent amalgamation of talent and experience and it was apparent in their last year's title win as well. Aiden Markram was the standout performer for them and scored 542 runs from just five innings at a whopping average of 108.40 with a strike-rate of a little under 133. Alongside him, the likes of Tony de Zorzi, Farhaan Behardien, Theunis de Bruyn, Heino Kuhn, and Heinrich Klaasen played a key role with the bat.

Junior Dala impressed one and all with the ball and will hold the key to their fortunes once again. He picked up 27 scalps from just 11 games he played last year. The Titans have a pretty settled lineup and to add icing on the cake, they have added Hardus Viljoen and Dayyan Galiem to their lineup. Both of them have done exceedingly well in the longest version of the game in domestic competition and could prove to be an excellent addition to their lineup. Overall, the Titans have only strengthened their squad this year and have no apparent voids, at least on paper. Beating them is going to take some work from any team in all the matches to follow.

Titans Playing 11

Heinrich Klaasen, Dean Elgar, Theunis de Bruyn, Henry Davids, Farhaan Behardien, Tony de Zorzi, Dayyaan Galiem, Hardus Viljoen, Lungi Ngidi, TL Moreki, Tabraiz Shamsi.

Lions

Exactly opposite to the kind of tournament the Titans had last year, Lions failed to leave a lasting impression. Last year, they finished at the bottom of the table, winning just two matches out of the ten they played. This year, however, the Lions have been in fantastic form albeit in red-ball cricket and will be looking to replicate the same in limited overs format as well.

While the Lions still maintain lead the four-day competition, they had a forgetful outing in their previous match and a change in format might well be a blessing in disguise for them. Over the last few seasons, the Lions have exhibited contrasting shows in different formats and will be looking to start this year's limited over competition on a happy note.

On paper, they have a decent side with the likes of Beuran Hendricks, Rassie van der Dussen, Reeza Hendricks, and Bjorn Fortuin at their disposal. Coming off a massive defeat in their previous match, the Lions have a hard task at their hands, but it is not something they cannot do. They are well and truly capable of defeating Titans and it won't be a surprise if they eventually manage to do so with considerable ease.

Lions Playing 11

NJ Van den Bergh, Ryan Rickelton, RVD Dussen, Temba Bavuma, Reeza Hendricks, Wihan Lubbe, B Hendricks, Eldred Hawken, MP Siboto, Bjorn Fortuin, Aaron Phangiso.

TTN vs LIO Betting Tips

These are early days in the tournament and while the teams can still make a comeback towards the back-end of the competition, wins in the early part of the tournament can impart the momentum, which can be crucial towards the end of the league stage. The two teams had a contrasting run last year and they both will be looking forward to a good tournament this time around. On paper, both the sides have their strength and weaknesses, and there is almost nothing to choose between the two. However, considering the form of the two sides, the Titans are coming off a brilliant win in longest format of the game and had a terrific One Day tournament last year. They have been a better limited-overs side and are our pick to bet on in the upcoming encounter.
