TWS vs CTB Match Prediction - Dec 08, 2019

We have reached the end of the Mzansi Super League 2019 group stage and every team has just one match remaining to play. Apart from the Jozi Stars, who have not won a single match so far, every other side has a chance to make it to the playoffs.

The Tshwane Spartans are in third place right now but within distance of being overtaken by either Durban Heat or Cape Town Blitz. The Spartans can win this game and secure its place in the MSL 2019 playoffs.

The situation is not as easy for Cape Town Blitz. Not only does it have to win the match against the Tshwane Spartans but it also has to hope that Durban Heat loses its last match. Oh and Cape Town Blitz also needs to improve its net run-rate sufficiently to go beyond the Spartans after this final match.

Tshwane Spartans vs Cape Town Blitz MSL T20 is going to be played at SuperSport Park, Centurion on the 8th of December, 2019.

TWS vs CTB Team Previews

Tshwane Spartans

The Tshwane Spartans have lost two out of their previous three matches and are losing steam at just the wrong time in the MSL. Perhaps, frustrating for them has been the fact that four out of their nine scheduled matches have been washed out because of rain.

The Spartans would like an opportunity to get the full four points in this match and not just the two that another rained-out match would get them. Durban Heat could go ahead of the Spartans with a win in their game if the Spartans only get two points from their match.

We have been skeptical about the Tshwane Spartans batting so far and those fears have not receded. AB de Villiers is brilliant and has won the Spartans a couple of matches already but he is not going to be able to do this every single time.

Wiaan Mulder made the most of his promotion in the previous match as he scored 52 and Tony de Zorzi batted quite well also. With Klaasen and Petrus van Biljon to follow de Villiers, the Spartans have rejigged their batting order to look a bit stronger.

Morne Morkel, Lungi Ngidi, Tom Curran, and Roelof van der Merwe are a very good set of players to have in the bowling attack and they are going to make life difficult for the Cape Town Blitz batsmen.

This attack failed to defend 188 in the previous match against the Nelson Mandela Bay Giants and also lost to Cape Town Blitz before that, so their confidence could a bit dented.

Cape Town Blitz

This has been a disappointing season for Cape Town Blitz although they could still end up sneaking their way into the MSL 2019 playoffs. They are the only team that has not had a single rained out game so far but did not manage to make the most of those chances.

They have a very difficult task ahead of them to try and win this game by a massive margin. The best chance of doing that will be by chasing and getting the target set in the least amount of overs possible.

Quinton de Kock is going to have to play his best inning of the MSL so far and get some help from the other batsmen as well. Janneman Malan, Liam Livingstone, and David Bedingham are all capable of striking the ball at an excellent strike rate.

We are backing Livingstone to be the batsman to watch out for in this match if we get a full game to witness.

Dale Steyn, Anrich Nortje, Sisanda Magala, and Wahab Riaz form a strong bowling attack that is going to test the relatively weak batting lineup of the Tshwane Spartans. Wahab Riaz has been in great form so far and is getting reverse swing even in T20 matches. A couple of searing yorkers that he bowled will live in the memory of the spectators for a long time to come.

We think Cape Town Blitz is a better team but it is up against a huge obstacle in terms of the net run-rate deficit.

Pitch and Conditions

A lot of rain has been forecast in Centurion on match day and that is very disappointing. We could have a situation where one or both these teams gets knocked out of MSL 2019 without ever being able to do anything about it.

For fans of the sides, this is the worst result possible.

The pitch at the Centurion is good for batting but whether we get to see any action on it or not is highly debatable.
