WRS vs LIO Match Prediction - Feb 14, 2020

After getting off to a terrible start in the tournament, the Titans have raced to the top of the ladder in the Momentum One Day Cup 2020. While their top of the table position speaks volumes about the kind of performances they have exhibited in their recent matches, but also about the performances of the other sides in the tournament. Lions are the other side that has done brilliantly in the tournament so far and will be looking to build on their form. Up next in the tournament, the Lions are set to play against the Warriors, who haven't been able to get going in the tournament so far. However, the Warriors, too, have a pretty good lineup, and the upcoming contest is expected to be a cracking contest. The match between the two sides is to be played on 14th February at St. George's Park, Port Elizabeth.

WRS vs LIO Team Previews

Warriors

Warriors have played three matches in the tournament so far, and although they won one of those matches with a convincing margin, they have looked far from their best. Currently, they are placed at the second spot from the bottom with five points to their name, but a win here could take them to the second spot, and that is precisely what they'll be aiming for.

They suffered a narrow loss at the hands of Warriors in their first encounter and went on to defeat the Knights in their subsequent match. Their win came with a convincing margin, which got Warriors an additional bonus point. The Warriors, however, failed to continue their winning run and lost to Titans in their third match of the competition.

Batting first, they lost Gihahn Cloete in only the second over of the match with Sinethemba Qeshile following Cloete back to the pavilion soon after. Ed Moore and Rudy Second then joined together with a 109-run partnership and brought Warriors back into the game. While Moore managed to score a century, he failed to provide his side with a flourishing finish, and lack of support from other batsmen didn't help Warriors' cause either.

Defending a total of 233 was going to be a colossal task, and their bowlers tried hard but in vain. Rudy Second was the pick of their bowlers as he picked up two scalps and gave away runs at a miserly rate. All other bowlers, however, were a tad too expensive as Titans chased the total down with more than eleven overs to spare and five wickets in hand.

Warriors Playing 11

Lesiba Ngoepe, Edward Moore, Sinethemba Qeshile, RS Second, Marco Marais, Yaseen Vallie, Onke Nyaku, Lutho Sipamla, Andrew Birch, Dyllan Matthews, Stefan Tait.

Lions

Lions have, without a doubt, been the best team of the tournament so far. Although they are placed at the second spot on the ladder, they have an advantage of two games under their belt. The Lions have played two games and have nine points with a net run-rate of 1.22.

With South Africa playing against England, the Lions were left in a spot of bother as most of their regular players were away on international duty. However, their senior players took responsibility as the Lions defeated Cape Cobras with incredible ease.

Batting first on a true surface, Ryan Rickelton and Dominic Hendricks played spectacularly well. The opening pair got them off to a flying start as Hendricks and Rickelton put together to add 125 runs before Hendricks was dismissed. Ryan Rickelton carried their innings with a superb innings of 157 while the likes of Rapulana and Nicky van der Bergh playing a brilliant assisting role. Eventually, the Lions ended up scoring a total of 320, which their bowlers defended with considerable ease.

Against a powerful Cobras' batting lineup and a depleted bowling lineup that the Lions were left with, defending even a total of 320 was never going to be easy. However, Ed Hawken bowled a brilliant spell to kill all the hopes of the Cobras. He picked up three wickets in his ten overs at the expense of 40 runs. Barring Aaron Phangiso, who conceded 62 runs off his 8 overs, all other bowlers bowled well as the Lions restricted Cape Cobras to just 271 runs, winning the match by 49 runs.

WRS vs LIO Betting Tips

While the two teams are coming off a contrasting run in the tournament, the Lions will be without their full-strength squad. Warriors, on the other hand, will be a bit low on confidence and will need to play out of their skins to beat high-flying Lions. Even though the Lions are far from their best, at least on paper, they still have a pretty well-balanced lineup. With the weight of two spectacular wins behind them, they will be brimming with confidence. For those reasons, we think that betting on a Lions' win should be the way to go in the upcoming encounter.
