As you will know if you have read any of our other reviews, the Curacao gambling license is not our favourite. It’s not thoroughly regulating the license holders and many rogue casinos and bookmakers have had only Curacao licenses, scamming customers and disappearing without consequence.
As such, we make sure to check for positive and negative reviews about a bookmaker, investigating the reputation they may have gained among other reviewers and in particular actual customers.
On AskGamblers, PowerPlay received a good review with quite a few positive reviews from customers. Whenever a negative review popped up, comments were also left by PowerPlay to clarify an issue or offer help, which we always appreciate.
More importantly, there is not a single complaint that was ever filed against PowerPlay by a customer on AskGamblers, which is rare indeed. AskGamblers is one of the main gambling forums that will act on behalf on customers that have encountered issues with a casino or sportsbook, but they never had to interfere on a customer’s behalf at PowerPlay. That’s certainly good news.
Additionally, SBR (sportsbookreview.com) one of the premier reviewing sites of bookmakers, has given PowerPlay a B-rating, which is also quite good.
We have found no reason that would speak against recommending PowerPlay to customers from India and can easily consider them a trustworthy sportsbook.
Cricket betting and other sports
Given that PowerPlay only just opened up to Indian customers, it does not yet have a strong focus on cricket betting.
But they do offer betting on a variety of cricket markets, and you will also find that they cover a good range of events, whether current or coming up. At the time of our review, betting options were available for the following events.
- Australia Twenty20 Big Bash
- India Premier League
- The Ashes 2021/22
- ICC Men’s T20 World Cup
- ICC Women’s Championship
- Twenty20 Internationals
- Vitality T20 Blast
- International ODI
- Women’s Australia Twenty20 Big Bash
That is certainly more than we’ve seen elsewhere, though some of the events coming up further in the future only have outright markets available at this time. We expect further markets to open up as the matches are drawing closer and in particular, further betting options for live events.
For instance, a match between New Zealand and Australia that was two days away, offered about a dozen markets for pre-match betting. We’ve seen more markets elsewhere, but live betting usually opens up further opportunities.
Cricket betting aside, PowerPlay has a strong focus on North American sports and football (or soccer, if you prefer). As such, you will find betting markets for basketball, baseball, ice hockey, American football (including college football), but also tennis, golf, boxing, handball and virtual sports.
There is no betting on esports, however, which is almost surprising nowadays.
We also checked the available odds for you and determined that odds for cricket, tennis and football are quite competitive with those of bigger sportsbooks that have been around for longer. If you don’t want to bother shopping for the best odds, you’ll be alright with the odds offered by PowerPlay. However, if you are also keen on betting on North American sports, you may find the available odds somewhat worse than at sportsbook that cater more towards a North American audience
Games and more
PowerPlay is not just a bookmaker, they also have an online casino and live casino games. Somewhat baffling is the separation into Casino, Live Casino and Slots. What baffles us is that the Slots section is only really a subsection of the Casino, which you could also access via the submenu. Having a link to the slots section in the main menu seems simply superfluous. It’s a minor niggle, mind you.
In any case, at the casino you will find games from NetEnt, Microgaming, Pragmatic Play, Playtech, Foxium and other developers. It’s not the most extensive library, but you do get some of the biggest progressive jackpot slots in the world, which could see you win more money than you could ever really dream of.
This is excellent news as many online casinos that only have a Curacao license don’t feature these progressive jackpots.
Slots aside, plenty of table games are also available, but if you want a little more action, you can always visit the live dealer section.
The live casino is exhaustive and offers tons of different tables, which include highlights such as Hindi Roulette, Andar Bahar, baccarat, blackjack and a variety of other live games that are sure to bring a lot of fun and opportunities to win. We were unable to find Teen Patti among the games that Indian customers might be interested in, though we hope to see it here in the future.
Also missing are lottery games, bingo or a poker room, though you can at least play live casino poker games.
Promotions and bonuses
PowerPlay offers new customers from India two different welcome bonuses, one for sports and one for casino play.
The sports bonus offers up to INR 5,000 for the first deposit as a 100% match bonus. This means, even if you deposit INR 10,000, your maximum bonus is still INR 5,000.
The bonus money can only be wagered on odds of 1.5 or higher and it must be wagered a total of 12 times. This is not unusual for deposit sports bonuses. It is important that stakes cannot exceed INR 20,000 when using bonus money and that the maximum amount you can win from this bonus is set at INR 300,000. This limitation is our main gripe with the bonus conditions as it does not seem particularly fair.
The bonus funds are available for 30 days before they expire if you have not met the wagering requirements.
The casino bonus is offering a total of INR 50,000 extra on the first three deposits, which should not exceed INR 10,000, INR 25,000 and INR 15,000, respectively.
It is possible to play through the bonus funds on all slots except progressive jackpot slots. Blackjack also contributes towards wagering, though not as much as slots.
The bonus needs to be played through 35 times before the funds become withdrawable. This bonus is also valid for 30 days and the win limit from this bonus is also just INR 300,000, though this applies to all three bonuses.
Beyond these welcome offers, PowerPlay has a range of other promotions, which are available to international customers. We are not quite sure yet, whether similar bonuses will also be available to customers from India. If that will be the case, you can expect to see various free bet offers, cashout offers, refer-a-friend bonuses, parlay bonuses and specials for some sports. We are hoping this will be case for cricket as well.
For once, a betting site does offer a separate banking page for their customers, which we appreciate a lot. And it is quite well done as well. You’ll be able to select your country and find a table with all the banking methods available for Indian customers, which is super convenient. They include:
- Credit cards (Visa, MasterCard)
- Much Better
Transaction times as well as minimum and maximum deposits and withdrawals are listed, which is great. Apparently, for any given banking methods, the maximum withdrawal limit for a transaction is INR 730,200.
The terms and conditions mention a withdrawal limit of $20,000 per day and $100,000 for a seven-day period. This will also apply to INR in the currency equivalent, of course.
The first withdrawal is free, thereafter a 3% fee applies for withdrawals below INR 6,000, though withdrawals bigger than that continue to be free.
Keep in mind that you will need to go through the KYC process at PowerPlay as well, which is required by international anti-money laundering laws. Customers have mostly had good experiences here, reporting very fast identification processes.
PowerPlay offers a great customer service, which is available by live chat, email and phone support. We are not yet sure whether phone support will be available to customers from India, but even if not, there is always the 24/7 live chat you can use.
Before you contact customer services, you can browse the comprehensive help section, which already covers a lot of different topics. Indeed, we found hardly anything lacking at PowerPlay, where tons of information is readily available on the homepage.
You are likely only going to have to talk to customer services for further clarification or a specific problem. And when you do, you will find them very professional, friendly and super helpful.
One might think the red and black homepage of PowerPlay a little dated. It certainly comes with a classic layout that has a main menu, a secondary menu and the list of popular events, sports and alphabetical sports on the left-hand side. Live betting options are front and centre and the betslip is located on the right-hand side, where it actually floats, which is a fun little gimmick as it moves with you as you scroll up or down.
A few extras such as a large window for the welcome bonus and smaller windows advertising big jackpots or highlighting recent winners make the site seem a little cluttered here and there. But this doesn’t detract from the overall ease-of-use of the website, and you will find your way around easily.
The separate slot section in the main menu is redundant, which we have already mentioned above. The casino is otherwise sorted into useful section, including a separate jackpot section. We do miss a filter function according to developer, though.
For everyone who prefers mobile betting over using the desktop site, you will find the mobile page of PowerPlay quite good. It is certainly a bit tidier and more intuitive to use than the desktop site, whilst still offering full access to all information, betting options and games.
There is no mobile app available, but it also does not seem necessary to have.
PowerPlay might be new to India, but they have been around for a little while on the international stage and so far customers seem to be quite happy here. Reviews are generally good, complaints are very few and we couldn’t find a major fault with them, except for their Curacao license, though even in terms of trustworthiness we have found no problem.
Whilst there are fewer cricket betting options available here than at more dedicated sites, we expect this to improve as customers from India begin showing interest in PowerPlay.
The games section is good and the overall availability of sports to bet on is satisfying for most casual punters.
The limit on winnings from bonus money is something we could do without, but it is one of our few issues at PowerPlay and no reason not to recommend them.
Overall, we really quite liked what we found here and see no reason why you shouldn’t check them out.
