The Mighty Efate Panthers won both their matches on the opening day of the Vanuatu Blast T10 competition and have claimed their rightful place at the top of the table. They are now going to be playing against the MT Bulls for the second time.
We had the Bulls as perhaps the strongest team in this tournament but we have seen now that T10 can be wildly unpredictable. Over 200 runs were scored in the first match of the Vanuatu T10 Blast while 35 proved to be a tricky total to chase in the second.
What will be the course that this match takes?
Mighty Efate Panthers vs MT Bulls is going to be played at the Vanuatu Cricket Ground on the 22nd of May 2020.
Mighty Efate Panthers
Two wins in two matches. There could not have been a better start to the Mighty Efate Panthers campaign in the Vanuatu T10 Blast. Their first win came against the MT Bulls and was highlighted by their strong batting.
Joshua Rasu got the side off to a strong start, Wesley Viraliuliu smashed 26 off just eight balls in the middle, and then Simpson Obed ensured a strong end to the inning. The total of 128 was at least 20-30 runs above par in our opinion.
Repeating such a batting performance is not going to be easy but it is clear that the Mighty Efate Panthers have the batting to do so. We did see what a few early wickets can do to this batting lineup, though.
Chasing just 35, the Mighty Efate Panthers slipped to 2 for the loss of three wickets and struggled to get over the line. We think the Mighty Efate Panthers may have over-achieved in the first match.
Wickets for Joshua Rasu, Simpson Obed, and Tony Tamata puts the bowling unit in a good space of mind, a definite advantage heading into this match.
Andrew Mansale played a lone hand in the previous match against the Might Efate Panthers. He bowled well in the powerplay and then played the best inning of the Vanuatu T10 Blast so far. His 75 off just 38 balls with 8 sixes is something that will make all the future opponents fo the MT Bulls very wary.
Players like Patrick Matautaava and Clement Tommy missed out in the opening match but they are very good players. We like the batting lineup of the MT Bulls and think they definitely have the kind of talent needed to put one over the Panthers.
The MT Bulls will need a much-improved bowling performance from their attack as well. Mansale and Matautaava were the least expensive of the bowlers and they went for close to ten runs an over as well.
A lack of quality spinners, poor execution by the medium-pacers, and poor strategy seemed to combine for the horrendous bowling performance in the previous match. It is going to be tough for the bowlers to come back strongly against the very same opposition in this match.
Pitch and Conditions
The weather forecast for Vanuatu is pretty good and we don’t think we will be bothered by the rain on match day. The pitch was great for batting at the start of the day but seemed to change later on. We hope to see a flat surface with plenty of runs in it once more.
A score of around 100 must be seen as par for the surface.
T10 matches have been won a lot more by teams batting second than they have by first. This is why we believe that any team that wins the toss is going to want to bat second.
The MT Bulls will be looking to strike back hard in this match after losing to the Mighty Efate Panthers the first time around. We think this could be their chance.
Bet on the MT Bulls to win.
