About the Match
The Riders had a terrific weekend with a win against Dynamites by 6 wickets that pushed them up the group and with their victory against Super Stars today, they are sitting prettily in the second position with 12 points; they will face table-toppers Victorians on 8th December at Dhaka for the next match. Victorians also have 12 points but have a better run rate in comparison; they will need to win this match to stay ahead of the competition and with Riders being a close second, this contest definitely will be a close fought one here on Tuesday.
They defeated the Bulls by 7 wickets on Monday after successfully chasing down a lowly target of 106 runs; the bowlers were exceptional as they took regular wickets and stifled the opposition’s run-flow. Ashar Zaidi took 2 wickets while Abu Hider, Stevens, Shoaib Malik and Kamrul Rabbi took a wicket each in a tremendous effort to restrict Bulls to 105 runs. Ahmed Shehzad’s 76 off 63 balls took the team safely home to keep them in the top spot.
Their earlier match against Vikings also ended in victory by 5 wickets after smashing 142 runs in reply to the opponent’s 136; the top order batsmen clicked well as a unit and helped them score the winning runs. The bowlers Ashar Zaidi, Abu Hider and Shuvagata Som had taken a wicket each then and they continue to do well.
They have a well-balanced team with experienced batsmen and in-form bowlers, who will definitely come out all guns blazing to keep the winning momentum going.
The Riders are surging ahead at the right time with two consecutive wins that has propelled them to the 2nd position; their recent win against Super Stars by 8 wickets after getting them all-out for just 59 runs within the 12th over, exhibited the firepower they have to win matches convincingly. Arafat Sunny with 4-14 was the pick of the bowlers while Mohammad Nabi continued to mesmerize with his spin bowling as he took 3-15 and Shakib Al Hasan took 2 scalps and also scored 29 runs to take the team to victory within the 10th over.
They had also defeated Dynamited by 6 wickets chasing down 136 successfully within 19th over; Jahirul Islam, Simmons, Soumya Sarkar and Sammy combined their skills with the bat to emphatically win the match.
Shakib Al Hasan is a strong all-rounder who is peaking at the right time here; he along with bowlers like Arafat Sunny, Nabi, Sammy and Perera provide a good depth to their attack that will be a tough challenge for the Victorians on Tuesday. The last time they faced Victorians, they had suffered defeat in a humiliating way but the Riders have definitely come a long way from there and they are raring to go for their revenge.
While Victorians are flying high at the first position, Riders have done superbly well to come to a close second with equal number of points; both sides have tasted success in recent past and they will try to continue with their winning momentum here. However, with an aggressive outlook, Riders have an edge to win the match on Tuesday
