AA vs CS Team Previews

Auckland Aces

The last game the team of Auckland Aces played in the Ford Trophy ended with no result. This game against Northern Districts was played at Hamilton on 10th December. Auckland won the toss and elected to bat first. When they were well-placed at 212 for 5 showers of rain came down in Hamilton to halt the proceedings. When the play resumed, Northern Districts was asked to chase a target of 168 runs from 25 overs. After 14.1 overs they were 76 for 1 when the rain came down again to end any hopes of getting a result in the match.

Batting first, Auckland had worked themselves into a good position in the match with close to 9 overs remaining. They had lost 5 wickets in the process though. George Worker made a cautious beginning to his innings as the Aces lost a couple of quick wickets in their innings. Worker scored 57 runs from 97 balls with 5 fours. But the real impetus to the Auckland innings was provided by the skipper Robert O'Donnell who hit 72 runs from 100 balls with 5 fours and 3 sixes. Mark Chapman and Ben Horne played cameos of 20 runs each scoring from 18 and 17 balls respectively.

Danu Ferns picked up an early wicket in the Northern Districts innings by removing the opener Katene Clarke in the first over. But the ND skipper Jeet Raval and wicketkeeper opener Tim Seifert were involved in a good unbeaten partnership of 75 runs before the rain came down again and the game had to be called off. Danru Ferns was the pick of the bowlers for Auckland Aces with one wicket from 3 overs giving away just 11 runs. The opening ball bowler Benjamin Lister and Louis Delport were also bowling well at that stage for Auckland.

Central Districts

Central Districts have made a much better beginning to their season this year with 2 wins from 3 matches. They also won their last encounter against Otago Volts by a huge margin of 123 runs. Central Districts lost the toss and were promptly asked to bat first by the Otago skipper. The Central Districts' innings was built around Will Young who scored 128 runs from 113 balls with 10 fours and 5 sixes. He batted brilliantly to almost single-handedly take the Central Districts' total to a position of respectability.

There were also good partnerships with Tom Bruce and Josh Clarkson which took the Central districts innings to a decent score. They ended up notching a total of 256 runs all out. After these 3 got out, there was a mini collapse for the Central Districts with the side being unable to complete their quota of 50 overs to end their effort in 44.3 overs. Jacob Duffy was the top bowler for Otago Volts picking up a fifer for just 33 runs from 9.3 overs. He was well supported by bowlers such as Michael Rippon and Michael Rae from Otago who picked up 3 and 2 wickets respectively.

The Otago innings never really got going and despite some good contributions from Glenn Philips who made 34 from 23 balls and the wicketkeeper-batsman Max Chu who scored 27 runs from 42 balls. But the Auckland Central Districts bowlers exploited the conditions well and hunted in a pack to reduce the Otago charge to just 133 runs all out from 25.4 overs. Doug Bracewell picked up 3 wickets for 38 runs while Seth Rance did even better to pick up 3 scalps for 29 runs. Raymond Toole also picked up a couple of wickets for 35 runs.

AA vs CS Toss Prediction

This is a batting-friendly wicket and will offer assistance to the batters, especially in the initial portion of the match. There might be some help for the bowler during the second innings. So, the captain winning the toss will opt to bat first on this venue and set a target.

Pitch and Conditions

However, the wicket on offer at the New Plymouth venue is well-balanced. It will offer plenty of opportunities to both batters and bowlers. There was just a single one-day international played at this venue and both teams participating in it scored in the excess of 300 runs. So, you can expect another high-scoring match here. However, the faster bowlers will get some assistance with the swing due to the windy conditions prevailing at the venue. There is a bit of help from the pitch for the faster bowlers as well.

We are expecting temperatures in the region of 20 degrees during this match. It will be a mostly sunny day with odd chances of getting cloud cover. There are few chances of players perspiring during the game and we can also hope for pleasant winds at the time. We are likely to get a relative humidity of close to 70 % and you can expect clear visibility during the match.

AA vs CS Betting Tips

Almost all the batters from Central Districts are in good form. But their bowlers are doing an even better job in the competition. The Auckland Aces on the other hand are off to a shaky start to their campaign and have lost 3 games already. It will be a tough road ahead for them to try and qualify for the next stages of the competition. We expect Central Districts to win this game and consolidate their position in the points table.
