About the Match
One of the best performers of the last season take on one of the worst in the second game of Big Bash League. The hosts, Adelaide Strikers who made it to semifinal stage will take on Brisbane Heat who finished at sixth place. The match will be played at Adelaide Oval on 21st December and will begin at 8:40 am GMT. This encounter will be important in a lot of aspects; most important of which is that it will kick-start the winner's campaign and instill much important confidence in the team. The spectators are already in big anticipation for this match which promises to be a cracker of a game.
Strikers made a semifinal exit twice in a row as they lost to Sydney Thunder. In the previous edition, the Strikers were brilliant prior to their exit. They won seven out of their eight league games and topped the chart. However, they weren't as good in the first three editions as they finished at 6th, 5th and 7th place respectively in those editions.
The Strikers, just like their name, boasts of the significant batting power in their lineup. With explosive batsmen like Craig Simmons and Ben Dunk at the top of the order with Head and Pollard to follow, they have no shortage of hitting power. The experience of Hodge brings calmness in the middle which gels beautifully with the hitting power. Their bowling, too, is pretty good with international stars like Kane Richardson, Ben Laughlin and Chris Jordan carrying the load.
Given the team they have and expectations they carry, if they do get knocked out once again, the tag of chokers will begin to creep in.
The Brisbane Heat have bolstered their batting with the signing of Brendon McCullum who could be a game changer on his day. They narrowly avoid the bottom spot in the table last time as they finished sixth in the points table. They lost quite a few games by narrow margin with Chris Lynn being the lone fighter more often than not.
The inclusion of Brendon McCullum will probably sort the inexperience issues which were visible in the last edition. His batting will be a key factor in how successful is the Heat's campaign is going to be. Chris Lynn is the man known for his towering sixes and he can set the BBL stage on fire once again. Lynn scored 378 runs at a ridiculously high strike-rate with an average of 54.
Where they lack is the bowling department which has a wealth of inexperience. Samuel Badree will be a key factor in their bowling and if their bowling lineup can stand up to the challenge, they surely have the batting that can deliver on the big stage.
Both the teams have bolstered their line up coming into this tournament. The signing of Brendon McCullum will bolster their batting by a huge margin. Strikers have a history of starting off on a high. Strikers have a strong history and more balanced line up and they are expected to prevail in this all-important encounter.
