About the Match
With 6 points each, Strikers and Scorchers will meet each other at Adelaide on 5th January; while Scorchers are at the top of the points table, the hosts are at the third position after four matches played so far. The upcoming match will certainly test their perseverance here as the competition gets heated up; while Strikers won their last game against Sixers, the Scorchers have been undefeated in the last three outings and will be eager to continue with their winning momentum. It needs to be seen if Strikers can use the home turf to their advantage and are able to outwit the visitors yet again having won the contest last time they faced each other.
They defeated Sixers in the last match by successfully chasing down a target of 177 runs with 3 balls to spare; Travis Head continued with his good batting form as he posted an unbeaten 101 off just 53 deliveries and steered his team to a comfortable victory. Brad Hodge, Simmons, Ludeman and Jayawardene make up the top order and they definitely will try to come out all guns blazing.
Adil Rashid notched up 3 wickets against Sixers with his legbreaks while John Holland took a wicket and proved to be the most economical of the bowlers. However, in the match against Thunder, the batting line-up was demolished for just 117 runs on board and the bowlers couldn’t impress much.
Ben Laughlin has been consistent with the wickets but needs to put up a more disciplined attack; Rashid can contain the run-flow and along with others like Stanlake, Richardson and Michael Neser, Strikers can definitely prove to be a formidable force to reckon with on home soil.
David Willey, Tye and Behrendorff combined their wicket-taking abilities to restrict Sixers to a meagre 112 runs in the last match; Shaun Marsh powered them to a win by posting an unbeaten 63 while Klinger and Harris supported well on the other end. Against the Renegades, the bowlers gave away too many easy runs but the batsmen came out all guns blazing to chase down 171 runs with ease.
Klinger and Marsh have been performing well with the bat consistently and they will focus on building a solid foundation here too; Klinger’s brilliant 90 off 58 and Marsh’s 76 helped them win the match against Renegades and the duo continues to steer the team to victories.
Behrendorff has been vital to their bowling attack and can stifle the opposition; long with Tye, Willey and others they will try to pressurise the Strikers and outwit them in their own backyard.
The Scorchers have done very well to get to the top of the table and will be determined to continue on their juggernaut. The home team will be a tough challenge but we feel that Scorchers, who have the momentum advantage, will put their best foot forward to climb up the ladder with another win here on Tuesday.
