About the Match
Sydney Thunders will host Adelaide Strikers on Saturday in the ongoing BBL and while the Thunders are yet to open their account on the points table, the Strikers were awarded a point when their opening match against the Hurricanes was abandoned and both teams were given a point each. The hosts had lost their opening game against the Sydney Sixers by 6 wickets and will look to win this round whereas the Strikers, who are yet to put their skills on display, will be eager to put up a tough fight and score more points. It will be an interesting contest as both sides have T20 specialists who can turn the match in their team’s favor and dominate the opponent right from the word go.
The team, led by Michael Hussey, has many talented and experienced players like David Warner, Chris Woakes and Eoin Morgan; with Usman Khwaja opening the batting, the team got off to a good start in the first match against the Sixers wherein Khwaja and Warner built a strong partnership of 116 runs before the latter got out in the 11th over. The rest of the batting order bucked easily and the captain himself couldn’t contribute to the total. They were all out for 166 runs and the bowlers failed to defend this meager total against the Sixers. While the bowlers Sandhu, Sandri, Woakes and Dean got a wicket each, they couldn’t restrict the run flow and lost the match by 6 wickets. The middle order batsmen need to get their act together and learn to build a solid foundation for the team to do well here; they will be eager to better their performances from the previous seasons and will try to fight it out to keep their hopes alive.
Though their previous match was cut short due to rains, the team provided a glimpse of its talented players like Alex Hales and Klinger who smashed away fours and sixes to post 86 runs by the 6th over, batting first in an 8-over innings. Hales missed his half-century by 1 run when he was run-out; but soon after the rains halted play and the match had to be abandoned. The team has players who are well experienced in the T20 format and will look to win matches from here on to make it to the final-four. Bowlers like Kane Richardson, Shaun Tait and Adam Zampa will bring in variety and will be key resources; they have a good set of all-rounders who can turn the match in their favour with skills with both bat and ball. The team is all set to exhibit its talents and win matches, and is focused to achieve their goal of making it to the top four.
The hosts are yet to score a win in this league and are hungry to do so, however, the Strikers are a formidable team to beat and will put up a strong fight against the Thunders. The match could go either way, however, this looks like an easy win for the Strikers.
