ADH vs NS Match Prediction - Dec 19, 2021

We are just eight games into the Women's Super Smash 2021 already and the points table is beginning to take shape already. Although the ladder is a bit skewed due to the contrasting number of games played by the different teams, the likes of Otago Storm Women and Wellington Women clearly seem to be running away at the top. On the contrary, Central Hinds Women and Northern Braves Women are still struggling in the bottom half of the ladder.

Up next in the competition, Northern Braves Women will take on Auckland Hearts Women, the team that has played the least number of matches up until now. The match between the two sides is to be played at Eden Park Outer Oval, Auckland on 20th December 2021.

ADH vs NS Team Previews

Auckland Hearts Women

Auckland Hearts Women have not played much cricket in this tournament thus far, but they have certainly impressed in the only game they have played. Their first and only game, coincidentally, happened to be against the Braves, the match that they won with considerable ease. With that win, they opened their account on the ladder and climbed up to third spot.

Batting first, they did appear to be a bit rusty, but a fantastic knock from Holly Huddleston took them from what could have been a paltry total to what eventually proved to be match-winning total. Credit to Lauren Down too as she scored a useful 44 even though she took 51 deliveries to do so. Other than these two, however, there was no double-digit contribution from that bat and that will certainly be a cause of concern for Hearts going into this upcoming fixture.

On the bowling front, however, there were contributions coming from almost everyone as they kept picking up wickets at regular intervals. Ariene Kelly was their player of the match, picking up 3 for 21 in her four overs. Holly Huddleston chipped in with the ball as she returned with exceptional figures of 2 for 13 in her three oves. The pair was ably assisted by Molly Penfold and Fran Jonas, who both picked up a wicket each.

All in all, Auckland Hearts will have some concerns regarding their batting going into the upcoming match, but they wouldn't be too worried as this is just their second match. Besides, they have a fairly balanced unit on-paper that should be brimming with its majestic win. If they are able to play to their potential in this upcoming match as well, Northern Braves Women will certainly have their work cut out.

Northern Spirit Women

Evident by a dismal run in the tournament thus far, Northern Braves will certainly be disappointed with the performance they have put thus far. As it currently stands, they are placed at the bottom of the points table with three losses from three matches. Besides, they have a terrible net run rate of -1.924, which just illustrates how poor they have been.

The only match in which they were able to put up some fight was against Otago Storm as they managed to drag the game till the last over of the match. In their first and the third match of the tournament respectively, they suffered massive defeats by margins of 61 and 48 runs.

They are coming off a major loss at the hands of Auckland Hearts in their previous match, which played a huge role in denting their net run rate. Bowling first on a decent surface, Northern Braves did a decent job of restricting Hearts to a total of 142, but their batsmen were all over the place. In response, Northern Districts Women managed to put together a total of just 94 runs and lost seven wickets in the process.

On paper, Northern Braves have a decent side, but they have severely lacked execution skills with the bat. Their batsmen have not really fired and despite a reasonable performance by their bowlers, the Braves are languishing at the bottom of the points table. Given the form they have been in, they'll need to play out of their skins in this upcoming match and if they can do that, Auckland Hearts will be in for a surprise.

ADH vs NS Toss Prediction

This is a day game and there will be good assistance for the fast bowlers until the moisture dries down. The first few overs will be crucial and both skippers will be wary of that. Besides, the surface is unlikely to change over the course of forty overs. Keeping those factors into consideration, we expect the captain winning the toss to field first.

Pitch and Conditions

The surface here at Eden Park Outer Oval offers assistance to batters and bowlers alike. With small boundaries and even carry, batsmen can trust the bounce and go for the big ones. For the bowlers, there will be movement on offer off the pitch and in the air. We haven't seen many high scoring matches in the tournament up until now and that is likely to be the case here as well. A total of 145 will be a par score here and the team batting first should be fairly content with a total anything over that.

We have not seen many high scoring matches in the tournament and that can partially be attributed to the conditions and partially to the effort the bowlers have put in. We saw these two sides produce a one-sided low scoring match just a few days ago and do not expect a high-scoring match this time as well. Bet on the total runs scored in the match to be less than 284.5.

Holly Huddleston was undoubtedly the best player from the Auckland Hearts' unit in the last match and she will hold the key once again. She is someone who can contribute in both departments of the game and will be brimming with confidence. She is certainly the best candidate to bet upon for the player of the match award. This is a lucrative punt for those looking to take some risk.
