It is still early days in the IL T20 2023 season but it appears as if the Abu Dhabi Knight Riders are going to be one of the teams that struggle. They have played and lost both their matches and sit at the bottom of the standings at the time of this writing.
The Desert Vipers started with a win but they have played just one match and it is always dangerous to draw too many conclusions from just one performance.

Two matches and two poor batting performances have prevented the Abu Dhabi Knight Riders from being competitive at this early stage in the IL T20. Brandon King and Colin Ingram have struggled to have any impact and Paul Stirling has not been too effective either (although he does have more runs than the rest).
Andre Russell and Sunil Narine are batting far too low down the order to be able to influence the games in our opinion and may be forced to make an upward move. We think a couple of players may need to be swapped out to just shake things up a bit.
On paper, the Abu Dhabi Knight Riders have an excellent bowling lineup. Akeal Hosein and Sunil Narine are quality spinners while Ali Khan, Ravi Rampaul, Andre Russell, and Matiullah Khan have done reasonably well also. The bowling attack needs some more runs to defend and we think it can be dangerous if it does.

Desert Vipers
Alex Hales and Sam Curran batted brilliantly in the previous match for the Desert Vipers. Hales ended with 83 not out and Sam Billings on 49, essentially ending the game there itself. Colin Munro, Sherfane Rutherford, and Rohan Mustafa are the other batters in the lineup.
This is a strong core of batters but the depth is a bit lacking. The dependence on Alex Hales is a lot and if he falls early, the Desert Vipers could struggle for runs.
We absolutely love the bowling attack that the Vipers have at their disposal, though. Tom Curran, Tymal Mills, Sheldon Cottrell, and Benny Howell are four very different (and effective) fast bowlers. They can challenge the batters with genuine pace or change-ups during the death.
This could be where the Desert Vipers win the contest.

The conditions in Dubai are dry, moderately warm, and overall brilliant for cricket. There are no interruptions expected.
