Dhananjaya de Silva scored 65 in the previous match for the Abu Dhabi Knight Riders to lead them to a score of 170. That did not prove to be nearly enough, though, as Mi Emirates managed to chase it down of the last ball. For a long time in that match, it seemed that the Knight Riders were going to win their first match in the IL T20.
The batting lineup for the Abu Dhabi Knight Riders remains quite weak. Kennar Lewis, Charith Asalanka, Brandon King, and Raymon Reifer are all decent batters but none of them is considered a must-have in a T20 setup. Andre Russell and Sunil Narine have batted way too low in the order so their impact has been limited as well.
Akeal Hosein, Sunil Narine, Andre Russell, and Raymon Reifer form an almost all-Caribbean bowling attack. There is potential here but we have not seen any one of these bowlers have an outstanding tournament so far. Keeping runs down has also been an issue.

Gulf Giants
Gulf Giants finally lost their first match of IL T20 2023 when they went down to the Sharjah Warriors. They were absolutely crushed by their opponents in a small chase of 151. James Vince, the highest run-getter for the Gulf Giants, fell cheaply and the rest of the batting could not do much either.
With Tom Banton, Chris Lynn, and Shimron Hetmyer in the lineup, the Gulf Giants have some acclaimed T20 names in their squad. The real strength, though, is their all-round talent. Liam Dawson, Rehan Ahmed, and David Wiese are all genuine threats with the bat while being able to bowl their four overs in most matches.
Their presence gives the team a lot of flexibility. Chris Jordan and Richard Gleeson lead the bowling lineup.

Pitch and Conditions
There is no rain predicted and we should not have any interruptions. Dubai has been a pretty good venue for batters in IL T20 2023. The average score has been close to 170 but that could come down if the surface starts to slow down a bit. So far, though, it has allowed the batters to play quite freely.
