Abu Dhabi Knight Riders

It’s not a great launch to the ILT20 for the Knight Riders, who have yet to pick up a victory and are languishing at the bottom of the ladder. The team has had a few close games, but more often than not, they’re simply getting crushed via a combination of run-of-the-mill batting and poor bowling.

There have been a few bright spots, namely Andre Russell’s batting (total of 153 and average of 21.85), but he’s only hit one half-century and his play is unreliable. Paul Stirling has recently joined the team back from his short stint in Ireland, and is showing signs of promise with 153 runs so far. The team did recently sign Joe Clarke, who was fantastic for the Melbourne Stars in the BBL, so perhaps some wins are around the corner.

The bowlers are giving up far too many runs and aren’t too lethal with the ball. Lahiru Kumara (eight wickets and 21.12 ER) and Akeal Hosein (six wickets and 34.83 ER) have been the standouts, but the Knight Riders will need more help if they hope to pick up some victories.

MI Emirates

The MI Emirates are back on track with a big win over the Vipers, as things were a bit erratic following two losses and one abandoned match. Much of the credit has to go to star batter Kieron Pollard, who has hit a half-century in his last three matches (including a big 86 score versus DC). He’s made a total of 275 runs (third-best in the ILT20) with a solid batting average of 91.66.

Helping Pollard has been Muhammad Waseem, who isn’t too far behind with 214 total runs (sixth-best in the league) with an average of 36.66. Waseem was looking a bit iffy at the crease with only 17 runs across three matches, but he turned things around with a huge score of 86 against the Vipers.

The Emirates’ bowling attack is perhaps not as strong as the batting, but there’s still a good effort from the likes of Fazalhaq Farooqi (eight wickets and 22.37 ER), who is the eighth-best wicket-taker in the league and was great against the Vipers with 3/13. Imran Tahir has also been solid with seven wickets and a 13.85 ER.
