The Adelaide Strikers are about to play their first BBL match of the season as they take on the Hobart Hurricanes. This is going to be the second match for the Hurricanes who registered an impressive victory against the Sydney Sixers in their opening match.
The Adelaide Strikers have been a bit off the pace in recent BBL seasons and this is a good opportunity for them to start strong. The Hobart Hurricanes, on the other hand, will be keen to go 2 from 2 and get some momentum behind them.
Adelaide Strikers vs Hobart Hurricanes BBL 2020-21 is going to be played at the Bellerive Oval, Hobart on the 13th of December 2020.
The Adelaide Strikers will be pleased to have most of their first-choice players available to them for the start of the BBL season. That has not been the case in the past and has cost them heavily. This time, though, Alex Carey and Matt Renshaw will lead the batting for them. Travis Head and Michael Neser are a part of the test setup, though, so they will be missing.
The Strikers have Phil Salt in their lineup to provide the explosive touch upfront while the likes of Jonathan Wells, Jake Weatherald, Alex Carey, and Matt Renshaw are going to look to bat through the inning.
Two concerns pop out immediately. The Adelaide Strikers lack depth and their best players are not in their best form.
One of the batsmen needs to have the season of his life.
The bowling is very good thanks to Rashid Khan leading the way. His four overs are always tough to score off even though he does not seem to get too many wickets nowadays. Peter Siddle, Wes Agar, and Daniel Worrall are the other bowlers that we expect to see in the starting eleven.
Philip Salt, Jake Weatherald, Matt Renshaw, Harry Nielsen, JW Wells, Ryan Gibson, Rashid Khan, Daniel Worrall, Peter Siddle, Wes Agar, Danny Briggs.
The Hurricanes managed to win without a single run from either of their openers. That is a good sign and shows that the lineup has resilience. Colin Ingram, Peter Handscomb, and Tim David were the ones that scored freely in the opening match.
Darcy Short is a BBL legend and we think it is just a matter of time before he gets back to run-scoring ways. Will Jacks also comes with a serious reputation from England and could be in line for a big score soon.
The batting looks pretty sorted for the Hobart Hurricanes and that is a good thing considering their home ground is one of the highest-scoring venues of the BBL.
Johan Botha came out of retirement to play this season for the Hurricanes and we are never big fans of that. He got through two overs without really making an impact. The Hurricanes are wasting an opportunity to try another youngster instead of holding on to Botha.
James Faulkner, Nathan Ellis, and Riley Meredith form a very good bowling attack that has pace, variation, and proven death bowling skills to call upon. The lack of a genuine spin bowling option is something that the Hurricanes need to address.
D'Arcy Short, Will Jacks, Colin Ingram, Peter Handscomb, Mac Wright, Tim David, James Faulkner, Johan Botha, Scott Boland, Riley Meredith, Nathan Ellis.
The team that wins the toss is going to want to field first as chasing has been the more successful strategy in the tournament so far. The Bellerive Oval is also a difficult place to defend typically.

The weather is expected to be very good for cricket on match day as there is no rain predicted. We do think that there is going to be an absolutely flat batting pitch with a decent amount of bounce in it. The fast bowlers always have something to work with in Hobart and this is going to be no different.
The average score maybe something in the region of 175 or 180, below which teams are going to uncomfortable defending.
We think the team to back in this contest is the home team. The Hobart Hurricanes have a strong squad this season with some good batsmen and a very well-rounded pace attack. The lack of form for one or two of the big players is not that much of worry. The Adelaide Strikers also have a good bowling attack but their batting depth is a real concern.
Bet on the Hobart Hurricanes to win.
