Most of the teams in the Big Bash League have just one match to go and the race to the playoffs couldn't have been tighter. Melbourne Stars and Sydney Sixers have already made it to the playoffs. With a win over Melbourne Renegades, Sixers are in a comfortable position at second spot, but have a chance to be displaced by Adelaide Strikers. Against Strikers in the upcoming contest will be Hobart Hurricanes who are still hanging in with the hopes to qualify for the playoffs, albeit with a thin thread. The Hurricanes would not only want to win this encounter but would also want Perth Scorchers and Brisbane Heat to lose their respective matches. Adelaide Strikers and Hobart Hurricanes take on each other in an all-important clash on Sunday, 26th January, at Adelaide Oval, Adelaide.
Adelaide Strikers have been brilliant in the tournament, but more so in their recent matches. As of now, they are at the third spot, but thanks to their terrific net run-rate, which is the best amonst all teams in the tournament, they will climb to second spot in case they win their upcoming encounter.
The Strikers are coming off a stupendous show in their recent games and they will be difficult to stop going into the business end of the tournament. The Strikers have really geared up after their embarrasing loss to Brisbane Heat and now have a four-match streak. Their streak started with a terrific 10-wicket win over Brisbane Heat and they then followed it with with wins over Hobart Hurricanes, Melbourne Stars, and Perth Scorchers.
Against the Scorchers, the Strikers' batting did a fantastic job to score 181-runs on a surface that wasn't particularly a batting beauty. Almost everyone contributed with the bat for them as they knocked off the 180-run mark with significant ease. Phil Salt, who scored 59 off 31 deliveries, was the pick of their batsmen.
Perth Scorchers have a batting lineup that goes deep and the Strikers needed some effort from their bowlers to keep Scorchers away from their total. Wes Agar, Rashid Khan, and Peter Siddle chipped in with spectacular show in the middle-overs as they restricted Scorchers to a total of 165 runs, winning the match by 16 runs.
Philip Salt, Jake Weatherald, TM Head, Alex Carey, JW Wells, Matthew Short, Michael Neser, Rashid Khan, Peter Siddle, WA Agar, Billy Stanlake.
After a terrible tournament, the Hurricanes finally seem to have found some form. With two back to back wins behind them, they have the momentum and won't be as easy a side to beat as they were the last time when these two teams met. They are currently at the sixth spot on the ladder and if they have favorable results in the remaining matches of the tournament, they'll climb to the fourth spot.
They are coming off a spectacular win in their most-recent encounter wherein they defeated Sydney Thunder by a massive margin of 57-runs. Batting first on a surface that was getting slow, Hobart Hurricanes showed terrific exhibition of batting as they put up a gigantic total of 185. D'Arcy Short had a poor outing in his comeback game, but Wright and Wade once against combined to get them off to a terrific start. Wade scored 56 off 34 deliveries and M Wright contributed with a 64-run knock.
On paper, the Hurricanes have a superb batting unit that can take on even the best in the business. Their bowling has been doing pretty well in the season and their prowess was apparent against the Thunder as well. D'Arcy Short picked up five wickets with the ball and other bowlers complemented him beautifully. Beating Hobart Hurricanes is going to take some effort in the upcoming match, even for the in-form Adelaide Strikers.
D'Arcy Short, Matthew Wade, Mac Wright, David Miller, Ben McDermott, GJ Bailey, James Faulkner, Clive Rose, Nathan Ellis, Qais Ahmad, Scott Boland.
Check out the Dream11 fantasy lineup for the Big Bash League - 2019 match between Adelaide Strikers and Hobart Hurricanes
This is arguably the most important encounter in recent times for both sides. For Adelaide Strikers, a win here will take them to a total of 19 points and provide them with the luxury of having an extra game up their sleeve. For the Hurricanes, a win is a matter of survival and progression to the next round. Both the sides are coming into this match with the weight of some exceptional wins behind them and are not expected to hold anything back. With D'Arcy Short back, the Hurricanes' batting look superb, at least on paper. Their bowling has been putting up a reasonably good show and with a motivation to stay in the hunt, the Hurricanes are our pick to emerge on top in the upcoming encounter.
