ADS vs MLR Match Prediction - Jan 10, 2023

Excitement is building for the upcoming matchup between the Renegades and Strikers. Melbourne is placed third on the ladder with 10 points, while Adelaide is fifth with eight points. The Strikers snapped a four-game losing streak with a win over Hobart, but the Renegades are cruising with two straight victories.

As of now, the Strikers appear the favourite, but the Renegades aren’t far behind in the odds.

ADS vs MLR Team Previews

Adelaide Strikers

The biggest news for the Strikers is that their leading run-maker, Chris Lynn (324), and one of their best bowlers, Rashid Khan (six wickets and 6.42 ER), will both be leaving the side. However, Lynn will stick around for a bit longer and play his last game on January 14th against the Heat.

Still, there’s little reason to worry, as Australia’s Test stars Travis Head and Alex Carey will revitalise the Strikers' top batting order. Plus, let’s not forget about Matt Short’s 321 runs, including his 100* against the Hurricanes. With such a player still on the roster, as well as Colin de Grandhomme (153) and Adam Hose (197), the Strikers are in a good place.

It does seem odd that the Strikers lost four in a row with a wealth of great batters, but they could still use a bit of help on the bowling front. Henry Thornton has been solid with 16 wickets, but he can go missing in some games, like his 0/41 against Hobart. Wes Agar is the next best with 11, but Adelaide isn’t quite the fearsome bowling team just yet.

Melbourne Renegades

Like every team in the BBL, there will be a few minor changes to the roster, as several players will depart for other leagues across the world. Andre Russell, Akeal Hosein, and Mujeeb Ur Rahman are all leaving the Renegades, which hurts especially regarding spinner Hosein, as he’s bowled brilliantly and picked up 13 wickets.

Although injuries to Nic Maddinson (out for season) and Shaun Marsh (two weeks) hamper a good squad, the inclusion of spinner Ruwantha Kellapotha is a boost and there’s also batter Marcus Harris to help with scoring runs (just three so far, however).

Aaron Finch continues to lead the team in runs with 242, which is pretty astonishing for a 36-year-old player. You’d like to see more from opener Martin Guptill (86 runs), as it’s tough to rely on one player to score night in, night out. There’s improvement from Jonathan Wells (136) and especially Sam Harper (116), who scored a career-best 89 runs thanks to hitting seven 6s against Hobart.

Tom Rogers’ 17 wickets is leading the BBL and he’s rapidly turning into one of the best bowlers in the league. The Renegades will rely heavily on him for now, especially with Hosein leaving.

ADS vs MLR Toss Prediction

Adelaide should certainly look to bat first if winning the toss.

Pitch and Conditions

The Adelaide Oval is usually a high-scoring pitch with support for the pace bowlers and also spinners. Particularly in a night game, batting first is usually seen as a better choice, and the Strikers are 10-4 against the Renegades when this happens.

ADS vs MLR Betting Tips

Although the Renegades are playing well and above Adelaide on the ladder, this one feels like it belongs to the Strikers. The inclusion of Head and Carey, plus the fact that Lynn will be around for a few more games, means that there are so many batting options for the Strikers. Short’s 100* is proof that the team is in good hands.

Finch can certainly help the Renegades win in any match, but it may not be enough today. The Strikers’ bowling will have to work hard to remove Finch and Wells, but if they can do so without giving up many runs, then Adelaide will cruise to victory.

Bet on Adelaide to win.
