The Adelaide Strikers and the Melbourne Renegades both come into this BBL match on the back of a win. The Strikers won pretty easily against Brisbane Heat while the Melbourne Renegades had some nervy moments in their win against the Perth Scorchers.
Both the teams showed some glimpses of what can be expected of them in BBL 08 and this is why we think this match is an excellent betting opportunity for the observant viewer.
The Adelaide Strikers are the defending champions of BBL cricket right now while the Melbourne Renegades are the perennial underachievers in the BBL. Will this contest prove to be any different from what appears to be an obvious result?
The Adelaide Strikers put in a very professional performance against the Brisbane Heat in the opening match. They were brilliant with the ball and then efficient with the bat to get their first win out of the way.
The star for the Adelaide Strikers in their opening win was Rashid Khan. He returned with figures of four overs 19 runs and three wickets. His spell in the middle of the inning absolutely wrecked any chance that Brisbane Heat of getting to a competitive total.
Rashid Khan was supported by an excellent cast of bowlers such as Billy Stanlake, Ben Laughlin, Michale Neser, and Peter Siddle.
With Short also contributing with three important overs, the Adelaide Strikers once again have one of the best bowling attacks in the BBL. Here is the thing, though. Having a strong bowling attack can sometimes put pressure on the batsmen that have to pull their weight as well.
The lack of Travis Head in the side is a big blow but Alex Carey showed he is more than capable of leading the side on his own.
Carey top-scored with 70 runs in the opening match and seemed to continue from where he had left off last season. Alex Carey is going to be the heart of this batting unit until Travis Head gets back to the side, which may not be anytime soon.
Jake Weathrald and Jake Lehmann also have a big role to play for the Adelaide Strikers in the upcoming matches but we feel that there is definitely some room for improvement in this batting unit.
A couple of early wickets could put the Adelaide Strikers in a world of strife, particularly if Alex Carey is one of those wickets.
Alex Carey, Jake Weatherald, Colin Ingram, Matthew Short, JW Wells, Jake Lehmann, Michael Neser, Rashid Khan, Cameron Valente, Billy Stanlake, Ben Laughlin.
The Melbourne Renegades pulled off a brilliant win against the Perth Scorchers in the first game. That win was all the more surprising because the Melbourne Renegades were missing Aaron Finch and Marcus Harris to international commitments. Even Cameron White, the best batsman by far in this current Melbourne Renegades set up, did not contribute any runs to the cause.
It actually took a cameo from Mohammad Nabi and Sam Harper to win the match after the top-4 had been gobbled up for next to nothing.
We learned a couple of very interesting things from the opening match of the Melbourne Renegades. They have a good bowling attack that is capable of bowling strong batting lineups out but their own batting is very suspect.
Chasing a total of 103 should never be an issue but they lost four early wickets to put an easy win in jeopardy.
They will have to put in the same bowling performance against the Adelaide Strikers and a better batting performance to have any chance of winning.
Usman SHenwari showed just why he is regarded so highly around the world with a brilliant spell of bowling. It was his opening burst that set the tone for the Melbourne Renegades. If he can continue to bowl in the same fashion then the Renegades are going to be a very tough side to score against.
With Mohammad Nabi. Kane Richardson, Wildermuth, Boyce, and Christian in the side, the Melbourne Renegade s have six international quality bowlers to count upon. This is a huge plus and will always make them a force to be taken seriously in every match.
With the bat, the situation is completely different. Cameron WhIte much bat near the top of the order and guide his side from the front. The likes of Mohammad Nabi and Sam Harper are not going to be able to get away with such bold hitting in every match.
The role of Dan Christian with the bat down the order is going to be huge. He is one of the cleanest hitters in the game and can change the complexion of the match in a few overs.
Tim Ludeman, JD Wildermuth, Sam Harper, CL White, TLW Cooper, Mohammad Nabi, DT Christian, Cameron Boyce, KW Richardson, Kelvin Smith, Usman Khan.

The BBL match between the Adelaide Strikers and the Melbourne Renegades is going to be played at the Adelaide Oval, Adelaide. The weather forecast for Adelaide is excellent. We are certain that a good batting wicket is going to be prepared where the batsmen will be able to take advantage of some small square boundaries.
The Melbourne Renegades are understaffed and their batting is quite compromised. They may have own against the Perth Scorchers in their opening BBL match but it id difficult to see them doing the same against the Adelaide Strikers.
Back the Adelaide Strikers to win.
