ADS vs MLS Match Prediction - Jan 11, 2021

It was just a few days ago when Melbourne Stars met Hobart Hurricanes in an important Big Bash League contest. They registered a win there and just when everyone thought they'd get back to the business, they spiraled further downwards. With Perth Scorchers & Brisbane Heat winning their respective matches, the losses for Stars have left them vulnerable to drop down to the points table. They are not out of contention yet and will have yet another opportunity to get back into contention when they take on Adelaide Strikers for the second time in this tournament. The match between the two sides is to be played at Adelaide Oval, Adelaide, on Monday, 11th January 2020.

Adelaide Strikers

Even though Adelaide Strikers are still placed within the top-four, they would be gutted to not win their previous match. They have currently accumulated 17 points in nine matches with the help of four wins. Besides, they have a decent net run-rate of 0.325, which can be of an advantage should things get tight towards the end of the league stage.

Adelaide Strikers have put in pretty measured performances in this edition of BBL, but they have no one but themselves to blame for their loss in the last match. At one time, they were looking like posting a total of well over 200, but poor batting in the last six overs cost them the match. They scored just 44 runs in that span and lost six wickets in the process. Having said that, the total of 177 could have been enough had their bowlers executed their plans, but not to be.

Barring Rashid Khan, Wes Agar, and Harry Conway to some extent, none of their bowlers was able to keep the flow to runs restricted. Rashid Khan was the pick of their bowlers, picking up two of 24 in his four, but lack of aggressive intent from the other bowlers was probably what cost the Strikers the match.

Before that match, there were speculations about Salt's place in the time, but he quenched those with a sensational fifty. Salt, along with Alex Carey, played a vital role for Strikers to lay a solid foundation. With him doing well, the Strikers' batting looks as solid as ever.

On paper, Adelaide Strikers have a terrific team, and barring a few voids in their bowling department, they seem to be a pretty settled unit. If they manage to play to their potential in the upcoming match, they should have a pretty easy outing.

Melbourne Stars

At one time, Melbourne Stars were being touted as certain to qualify for the playoffs. Now, they are trying hard to even stay afloat in the tournament. So severe is this game and the format. With multiple defeats in their last five matches, the Stars have now dropped down to the seventh position on the ladder. They have scored just three wins in eight matches and have a dismal net run-rate of -0.428. Considering that all teams immediately above them on the ladder have a better net run-rate, the Stars would be desperate to snap their losing run and inch higher on the points table.

Just a couple of matches ago, as well, it was all left to Glenn Maxwell who almost won them the match had there not been a horrible batting collapse towards the end of the Stars' innings. Chasing a relatively minuscule total, Glenn Maxwell blasted 70 off just 37 deliveries, but the rest of the Stars' batting fell like a pack of cards. It has been a similar story for the Stars in the tournament on the whole as they have relied heavily on Glenn Maxwell and Marcus Stoinis.

In the tournament so far, Stars' batting has been their Achilles' Heel even though they have a fantastic set of batsmen, at least on paper. Nicholas Pooran seems more of a hit-out or get-out kind of player and has struggled apart from one innings that he played. Barring Glenn Maxwell, none of their batsmen has delivered consistently and that needs to be sorted as we move into the second half of the league stage.

The fact that the Stars have had too many injuries to deal with hasn't helped their cause either. Players have consistently come and gone out of the playing eleven, taking away the stability from their squad. As was the case in the previous match, we expect Adam Zampa to be a part of the lineup and his presence can make a material difference. In the absence of Nathan Coulter-Nile, Billy Stanlake has stood up well and Liam Hatcher has been doing a decent job too.

On paper, the Stars have a terrific team. With the likes of Nicholas Pooran, Marcus Stoinis, Adam Zampa, and Glenn Maxwell, it is evident that the Stars have no dearth of skill or experience. They have lacked execution thus far and if they can get that right, Stars won't find it difficult to get back to the winning ways.

ADS vs MLS Betting Tips

It was not long ago when Melbourne Stars and Adelaide Stars were fighting for the lone fourth spot on the points table. Since then the Strikers have consolidated their position and the Stars have conceded their position of strength. Having said that, a win here will put Stars back well into the scheme of things and that'll be aiming for just that. Comparing the two teams on paper, the Strikers certainly have a better-rounded team with almost everyone contributing in the tournament so far. Stars, on the other hand, seem to be over-reliant on Glenn Maxwell and Marcus Stoinis. Besides, the Strikers are playing on their home turf and that should add to their advantage. For the reasons stated above, placing your money on a Strikers win should be the way to go.
