The Adelaide Strikers are starting to get their Big Bash League season on track and move up the second place on the BBL League table. They now have three wins from the five matches they have played. The Adelaide Strikers will now go up against the Sydney Sixers.
Both teams have won the same number of matches in BBL 08 so far. The Sydney Sixers, however, look to be sliding down right now while the Adelaide Strikers are definitely on their way up.
Can the Sydney Sixers defeat the defending champions in their own den? It; going to require a massive effort from everyone involved if the Sydney Sixers are going to make it happen.
The Adelaide Strikers won quite easily against the Melbourne Renegades in their last match. Their batting has started to come into form and they scored over 150 once again. The chief architect of the inning was Jake Weatherald who scored 71 off just 44 balls.
His inning included three sixes and six fours as well.
The return of Jake Weatherald to form is a very welcome sign for the Adelaide Strikers. Their top-3 batsmen have scored heavily the last two matches and Carey, Weatherald, and Ingram are all in good knick.
Add Short, Lehmann, and Wells to that list and we have a batting side that is finding its feet very nicely.
We believe that the batting is what was keeping the Adelaide Strikers down in BBL 08 up until now. Now that the batsmen have started to come in form, the Strikers are going to be very hard to stop.
The Adelaide Strikers bowling has been sensational. We don’t think there is any other team that is harder to beat once they have a decent total on the board. Rashid Khan has been very frugal in giving away runs and instantly adds pressure on the batting side.
Billy Stanlake and Michael Neser have also been very good so far. Ben Laughlin has somewhat uncharacteristically been going for a lot of runs. He is someone who has a lot of variations and excels during the final few overs of the inning.
He is another player that we think is going to start performing well in the matches to come.
Alex Carey, Jake Weatherald, Colin Ingram, Matthew Short, JW Wells, Michael Neser, Cameron Valente, Rashid Khan, Peter Siddle, Liam O'Connor, Billy Stanlake.
The Sydney Sixers lost their previous match against the Hobart Hurricanes and now have three wins from their six matches. The three wins put them in joint second place at the moment but they have played one more match than every other BBL side.
The Sydney Sixers does not appear to be the strongest side on paper but has played quite well. Jordan Silk is the third highest run-scorer in the BBL at the moment and no one has taken more wickets than Steve O’Keefe.
The Sydney Sixers may have been expecting Nathan Lyon to join them soon but now that he has been recalled to the Australia national side, those plans will have to be changed.
The bowling has not been the problem for the Sydney Sixers. A lack of runs from their top order is the biggest concern in front of the Sydney Sixers right now. Joe Denly has been getting out without scoring many runs and just seems to be overly aggressive right now.
Denly needs to spend a little more time at the crease before taking risks because that is what his side needs. A lot of the batting depends on how well Henriques plays.
He is the best batsman in the side by far but expecting him to score runs in every single game is not realistic. Hughes got a fifty in the last game and Jordan Silk has been in excellent touch. If the Sydney Sixers can find someone at the top of their order to start scoring runs then they will immediately be a more difficult side to beat.
The bowling for the Sydney Sixers has been quite good. Tom Curran has been excellent at the end of the inning while Steve O’Keefe is picking up wickets in almost every single match. The Sixers managed to take the last game into the last over as well before the Hobart Hurricanes scrambled home.
Ben Dwarshius, Sean Abbott, and Manenti are all pretty good bowlers to have in your side.
J Avendano, Joe Denly, Daniel Hughes, Moises Henriques, Jordan Silk, Josh Philippe, Tom Curran, Sean Abbott, Steve O'Keefe, B Dwarshuis, Benjamin Manenti.
The side winning the toss is likely to field first
The BBL 08 match between the Adelaide Strikers and the Sydney Sixers is going to be played at the Adelaide Oval, Adelaide. The weather forecast for Adelaide on match day is good. No rain is expected and we should be able to get an uninterrupted match.
The pitch in the Adelaide Oval is excellent for batting. There is some pace and bounce which will encourage exciting cricket.
The Adelaide Strikers are the defending champions of the BBL. They have beaten the Sydney Sixers in four out of the last five matches they have played against them. The Strikers are playing at home and are coming into form at just the right time.
Back the Adelaide Strikers to win.
