Adelaide Strikers

The Strikers managed to reach a respectable fourth place on the BBL ladder last year and even reached the penultimate Challenger match, where they were defeated by guess who… the Sixers.

Still, there’s reason to be excited for the new season, as Adelaide has signed big-hitter batter Chris Lynn for only 11 games, as he has other cricket commitments with the Gulf Giants in the UAE. The team also added three big overseas players with allrounder Rashid Khan, New Zealand’s Colin de Grandhomme and England’s Adam Hose.

Even with those signings, the Strikers’ have got to be gutted that their latest spinner, Cameron Boyce, will miss significant time with a calf strain. It’s unknown if he’ll miss the entire season or just a portion, but either way, Adelaide could have used his spin bowling.

Adelaide does get Travis Head and Alex Carey for some games, provided that these two aren’t representing Australia in a Test series. Carey’s keeping skills and Head’s batting will be invaluable when they suit up for the team. Talented batter Matthew Renshaw left for Brisbane, but Adelaide did bring in Henry Hunt as a solid replacement.

Sydney Sixers

Losing to Perth in the BBL final last year has still got to annoy the Sixers, but the team will still be as good as ever this season. Captained by Moises Henriques, who has scored 2,340 runs for the team, the Sixers look formidable and it can’t hurt to have a generational talent like Steve Smith for at least a few matches.

There’s some anticipation building for Afghanistan spinner Izharulhaq Naveed, who will partner with Nathan Lyon (when available) for a strong bowling attack. These two can cause real damage and we can’t wait to see how they perform on the pitch. Fast bowler Chris Jordan is another great overseas addition.

Shadab Khan and Tom Curran have both left the Sixers, but there are a lot of runs to be scored from Josh Philippe and captain Henriques, and adding Kurtis Patterson is no small deal. Look for Jordan Silk to make huge scores this season, too. Allrounder Hayden Kerr is the biggest wildcard for the team, and could be the most-improved player in the league.
