ADS vs SYT Match Prediction - Feb 01, 2020

Sydney Thunder played a brilliant match to defeat the Hobart Hurricanes in the BBL 09 Eliminator and kept its season alive. It now faces the Adelaide Strikers in the inaugural BBL 09 Knockout to further move a step towards the grand final.

With four wins in its previous five matches, the Adelaide Strikers are coming into this match with some real momentum behind them. The return of Travis Head and Alex Carey to the side has improved its batting while the bowling continues to be very dangerous.

Sydney Thunder has shown in the previous match that it cannot be taken lightly. Can the Adelaide Strikers end Thunder’s roar once and for all in BBL 09?

Adelaide Strikers vs Sydney Thunder BBL 09 Knockout is going to be played at the Adelaide Oval on the 1st of February 2020.

Adelaide Strikers

The Adelaide Strikers have been in excellent form in the past couple of weeks and seem to be peaking at just the right time. They may have lost the previous match to the Hobart Hurricanes but still ended up scoring 207 in a chase of 218. The Strikers batsmen have been scoring runs very consistently and will be aware of the threat that Sydney Thunder poses.

Philip Salt, Jake Weatherald, Travis Head, Alex Carey, and Jonathan Wells form a very strong top-order. The depth of the side is a bit of a concern although we have seen Matthew Short and Rashid Khan score runs when needed in BBL 09 as well.

The Adelaide Oval is a very high-scoring ground and the Strikers must hope that its top-order is able to score freely.

Billy Stanlake, Wes Agar, Rashid Khan, Pater Siddle, and Michael Neser form an excellent bowling attack. Peter Siddle has been one of the standout bowlers for the Adelaide Strikers. We also like the matchup that Billy Stanlake has against Usman Khawaja while Rashid Khan will fancy himself against Alex Hales.

The Adelaide Strikers know their stronger suit is bowling and that is how they will try to win this game.

Sydney Thunder

Sydney Thunder is not too dissimilar to the Adelaide Strikers in the composition of its side. It too has a strong top-order but does not have too much batting depth in the side. Alex Hales and Usman Khawaja played spectacularly to set up the win for Sydney Thunder but the rest of the batsmen struggled once the pair of them got out.

The Adelaide Oval is another ground where a single batsman can get in and really make the opposition pay. Sydney Thunder must be hoping that one of Alex Hales or Usman Khawaja is able to do it. Callum Ferguson seems to have tapered off after starting BBL 09 brilliantly but he too remains dangerous.

Ferguson is very god against the spin and his partnership with Alex Ross could be pivotal to the outcome.

We have no trust in the batsmen beyond Ross, though. Daniel Sams, Chris Morris, and the likes are good for a slog but not to build an inning around them.

It was Jonathan Cook that was able to pick up his best-ever BBL figures and stifle the Hobart Hurricanes challenge. He was helped by having a huge score to defend and so the batsmen could not line him up. Arjun Nair and Jonathan Cook could struggle in this match and so the bowling heavy=lifting will have to be done by Daniel Sams, Chris Tremain, and Chris Morris.

Sydney Thunder has a decent bowling attack and can defend big scores quite well. We are not too sure how they will fare if they have to bowl first and don’t pick up a couple of early wickets, though.

ADS vs SYT Toss Prediction

The team that wins the toss is going to want to field first because defending can be quite difficult at the Adelaide Oval.

Pitch and Conditions

There is quite a bit of rain predicted for match day but thankfully the forecast improves quite dramatically in the evening. We expect dry skies by the time the match is about to start and for it remain that way for the entire duration.

The previous match played at the Adelaide Oval saw over 400 runs scored. The pitch is excellent for batting and the boundaries quite small. A high-scoring match is always likely and teams can never be counted out in the chase.

A score of about 180-190 seems to the minimum that teams will be aiming for batting first.

ADS vs SYT Betting Tips

Sydney Thunder has shown itself to be a very dangerous competitor in BBL 09 and also won against the Adelaide Strikers when they played at Adelaide during the regular season. All of its hopes depend on the opening duo, though, and this is why we are not comfortable backing them.

The Adelaide Strikers are playing at home, have been in excellent form, and are more balanced as a side.
